Well...my Homecoming adventure ended 50 miles south of Joliet, IL with a fried stator due to the mis-installation of the harness "recall" by my servicing dealership. If anyone has ready access to a replacement, I'd appreciate a call to Conrad's HD/Buell....815-725-9973. They're looking but the part appears to be back-ordered.

At this point, I'd be happy just to be able to get the bike running again to make it back to SW Missouri before eating up more vacation time!

Sorry to hear about your detour.

Out of curiosity, how do you know the harness upgrade wasn't installed correctly?

How long are they saying the part will be on b/o?

I'd also like to know how they installed it wrong...hard to do, really.

Tech at the dealership I got trailered to said that the fix needed to be installed at a certain connector pin position. It wasn't.

I didn't bother to get the details when I had the work done, so I'm taking the current diagnosis at face value.

Kirb: Diagnosis make sense?

Yup, pin number 21 of the upper connector. I asked if I could install the harness myself as I would be re-doing it once I got the bike back anyway and they would have trouble as my sub-frame had been modified (battery mounting brackets moved forward and everything else moved around to accommodate). I was told "NO", that would be fraud, they had to claim that they did the work and needed to know it was done correctly. I left my bike there for a day and when I called to see if it was ready, they told me that they could not do it and suggested that I just take the harness and install it myself ..... genius. I asked if they could at least do the re-flash. They said they could check my bike to see if it had the latest flash. Any way they weren't able to do the flash either, something about communication with Harley being down and still is three days later. My abbreviated harness is installed and I await the re-flash to have it actually start working. Big fun. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to go with the lower output 08 parts that didn't fry?

Thanks Aj...

Parts found and are enroute....won't be in time for the main Homecoming events but at least I'll be able to ride the bike home without additional logistical concerns.
