Road all weekend at April buell day's with no problems. Got on the bike today to ride to work and the battery light came on about the time I got to the end of the driveway. Went to work anyway thinking maybe it was because it had set in the garage for 2 days. Battery voltage kept going down to 11.5 and then started back upto 13vdc. Then it went back down and the the bike started to miss and sputter and then died as I pulled into the lot. A few hours later I went back out to go home . The bike fired right up and voltage looked good . Had a solid 13.5vdc almost all the way home then it went south again. Checked all the connections with the NEW harness and tried again . voltage keeps going down. Seems sort if unusual for a stator to come and go , maybe a regulator?? What do y'all think??

A loose connection might explain it randomly charging and draining.

I just experienced the same thing yesterday on my way to American sport bike.
When I ride the voltage goes up but as soon as I stop or slow under 6000 rpm the battery drops havely. Went straight to dealer I'm getting a new voltage regulator.

Its most likely the damage was done to the stator before the harness was installed, and at that point its just a ticking timebomb.

is there anyway to check the stator. (ie) pull cover and look at it? ohm meter?

Do an AC test on all 3 phases & also check the resistance to ground with an ohm meter.
Not sure what the specified reading should be. On the AC test you should get at least 60+ volts per phase.
