Keeping the revs up will help as it reduces the load on the stator.

Ride it like you would ride it. There is no magic formula. I kept my revs up on mine and it failed at 4,000 miles. Right now I have 7,000 miles and no problems yet with new stator and the new upgraded harness. Time will tell if this is the fix or not.
