my name is paul pereira and i live in chatham ontario canada, i have been a fan of the buell line up for many years and have finally saved enough money to buy a 2009 1125 cr. i love it it,s an amazing ride. Having said that i need to add that i have had some problems with it.after only 2 months and 6000kms i have developed some kind of serious vibration coming out of the left side of my frame that lasts about five seconds and has happened twice.i can't seem to find anything wrong with it nor can my dealer. now my bike is at the dealer awaiting a stator for 3 weeks now which where i am from pretty much ends my driving season,i am pretty pissed about the whole situation as i check forums i realize i am not the only one with this stator issue many people are awaiting a stator just like i am i think buell should try to do something about this. i purchased this new motorcycle so i wouldn't get into this type of situation.

Statistically speaking, ALL new vehicles (2 and 4 wheel) will have an issue. Thats what the warranty is for. The dealer will fix it, and then you can ride it some more. : )

Nice to find another Ontario rider!
I just had my 1125r in today for a bad battery, I am hoping that was really it and not a stator prob, what did yours do when the stator went?

Sorry to hear that Paul... it's frustrating when stuff breaks, and even more frustrating when it's new stuff. That shouldn't happen, and people should be working hard to make it right.

Buell has an outstanding history of doing exactly that, going above and beyond to make things right. Keep us updated on how it goes...

thanx for all the replies guys to be completely honest i understand that sh*t happens i'm probably more upset with my dealership because i asked if he would pull a stator out of a 2009 1125r that he has on the floor to get me riding but he refused because he said he wouldn't get paid for the labour for pulling it out of the 1125r, i buy a new bike from there and have bought a lot of gear there as well, they just don't get that they will be losing alot more money than that labour cost because i am done doing business there

I just got my 2008 1125r back from having the stator replaced. It was in the shop for a few weeks as well. One day it was fine. Then next, it would not start and acted like the battery was low, then only the running lights and tail light would blink and the relays under the seat made strange noises. Had to have it put on a truck and towed to the nearest dealership. Good thing I had insurance. For all of he $1000s of payments I have made to the insurance company, the tow was covered. The stator, battery, and regulator replacement was also covered under warranty.

Its one thing to swap a burnt out turn signal off a floor model, and an entirely different thing to do the stator transplant. I haven't looked into whats involved with it on a 1125, but I am sure as hell its not a 5 minute job. Then to top it off, they are effectively doing the job twice, as now they need to do it on the floor bike again once the part comes in.

That would be like me asking my dealer to pull a cam out of a floor model when I had a bad one.

Get real

four out of five guys that i have found with same problem got there dealers to do the same thing, that's how i got the idea. as far as i'm concerned i just bought a new bike plus gear not quite 2 months ago they should do it they are going to lose more money now that i won't be going back

a cam is a much bigger job than a stator. and zac4mac must not understand customer relations or he doesn't expect much from his dealer

Paulp,

I think the point that people miss on these boards in general is what you stated "I bought a NEW bike". Then someone says, "it is new, there will be problems"

I say bullshit, I never had problems out of any bike I bought off the showroom floor except my Buell. I love it, no doubt, but these excuses are crazy.

I didn't have an issue with the Mercedes I bought NEW, nor anything else for that matter. So I feel your pain having been through it and I agree with you, a NEW machine should be just that, NEW. Not ridden with problems.

Good luck in the fix man,

You guys are EXTREMELY lucky who have purchased vehicles that had no issues.

Here's a partial list of things I've had go wrong with brand spankin' new vehicles. They left the factory this way.

1) Volkswagen Corrado - Leaking sunroof
2) Honda Accord - Leaking rear trunk seal
3) Ford Contour SVT - tires out of balance
4) Mazda Millenia - steering out of alignment
5) BMW 1150RT - horrible surging (never fixed by BMW...fixed it myself)
6) BMW 1150GS - engine carboned up at 8500 miles requiring a top end rebuild (cause unknown)
7) Honda Goldwing - recall for cooling fan blowing the wrong direction
8) Jeep Grand Cherokee - climate temp knob defective
9) Audi A4 - rattling rear speaker
10) Mercury Cougar - leaking headlight seal

The list goes on, but you guys get the point. Anything that is built by people, is going to have something wrong with it. Building a spot on perfect vehicle is possible, and there are many made, but I've had scads of new vehicles and most of them have had something wrong the minute I drove it off the lot. Some issues were no big deal and I fixed them myself (a squeek here or a rattle there) and some were major enough that I had to take it back to the dealer.

It would be nice if we lived in a perfect world where all the parts sourced from outside vendors were delivered sans defects, and all vehicles assembled were flawless, but that's a pipe dream. As long as the people who are building the vehicles and parts are "working" (meaning they are trading their life for a buck), then they are going to be prone to make mistakes. How many of you can HONESTLY say that you've NEVER cut a corner or two to get out early on a holiday weekend. Rushed through something just to get it done on time. Completed a task and didn't go back to check your work. Those of you who've never done this are rare individuals who are either anal retentive to a cosmic level, or you are paid such a huge salary that you can't afford to make a mistake. But someone working on an assembly line probably has other things on their mind other than building a motorcycle. Be it their family, financial issues, etc.

I'm not excusing it, I'm just being a realist. People are people, and they WILL make mistakes.

Ye who is perfect....cast the first stone.

Chad,

In all fairness, none of those problems you listed actually took you OFF the road until they were fixed. The issue of carbon build up at 8500 miles hardly constitutes as new. Rattling speaker? Come on, there is hardly anything that does not have something that makes a noise.

All you listed never took weeks to fix or days in the shop. Out of alignment? 20 minute fix while you read magazines and eat a cookie in the wait area.

On the IT thing, no I have never cut a corner, but about 98% of the IT world does do that and that is why I constantly go in new companies and their IT dept and their infrastructure are in shambles being held together by a few band aids.

I suspect these "cut corners" are why half the country is laid off right now. That stuff trickles down into upset consumers, then sales drop, then the layoffs start.

A guy at work about 2 months ago when I bought the new Mercedes said this to me, "My son works for Ford and here you are out buying an import car." I said, "well when your son starts making products that actually last like the germans, then I will buy his cars."

He nodded his head and said "you have a point".

The idea of a 10,12, 15, or 20 thousand dollar motorcycle is a pipe dream for some. Those who actually can get one damn sure doesn't want it falling apart or spending countless hours in the shop. I can't tell you the reviews I read with test riders posting problems in 2007 before the release of the 1125, these are still issues we run into today. When are they going to fix these before they are released to the consumer?

If my mirror was loose when I took ownership of the bike, no problem. If my headlamps were out of alignment, no problem. However when the signal lights don't work, the speedo takes a crap, etc. Those are major issues. Those are issues that can get you killed.

Jpowell490 did you ask your coworker if everything in his house is American made? And if not why? Hell, 6 years ago my job at the time was outsourced to a subsidiary within our company, not in India, or China, but down the concourse from where I worked. My fellow Americans, who they paid $6 less an hour. Oh well, I make more now and work for myself. It turned out to be a good kick in the ass.
On another note, all I read about the 1125R has given me pause to rethink a purchase. As Jpowell says, some problems are reasonable, but multiple problems and the bike in the shop for weeks at a time or multiple times for a day or two at a time hits the unacceptable level at a certain point. If I finally pull the trigger I hope to find one with minor problems.
