For 380km, my new CR has been a dream bike, just got the suspension dialled in and really enjoying it.... Riding home from work today had the CEL light up, and was told by the dash that there was a 'fuel pressure issue', or something like that. Turned the bike off and could hear the fuel pump continuing to cycle, although it had been running fine. As my dealer is on my way home from work, I rode straight there: I was most impressed with the way they looked at it immediately, but 90 minutes later they were no closer to figuring out the problem. Pressure from the fuel pump was twice what it should be, for reasons that remain unclear.

The fuel regulator is within the fuel pump, so looks like this may need to be replaced; unfortunately there aren't any in Australia at the moment so after 10 days of ownership I think I'm off the road for a while. Has anyone else had an issue like this? The mechanics at my dealership haven't seen this before, in fact they've had very few problems with any of the 1125s they've sold. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a quick solution to turn up, but it doesn't seem that likely. Full points to Harley City in brunswick for their treatment of it so far though.

could be a defective fuel pressure sensor, or a problem with that circuit.

Twice the normal pressure??

Did the dealer just check the pressure on the ODS through Diag mode or did they put a separate fuel pressure gauge on it to check?

They started with digital technician, then attached a separate gauge to the circuit, I can't remember the figure but it was double what it should have been. The bike smelt like it was running really rich when idling inside the workshop.

Maybe Court can get you a pump sent to Oz faster than the normal channels?

Does the dealer have an Electrical Diagnostics Manual?

I remember reading about 1 or more DTCs that will cause the fuel pump to output it's max.
Can't remember specifics tho... lemme see here...

Depending on the DTC set, the culprit could be: IC, ECM, fuel pump or a wire shorted to ground.
Short to ground should have DTC P0628, wiggle-test, fix wiring problem or replace ECM.

Does the fuel pump run continuously? - short (BN/Y) or bad ECM
A faulty fuel pump should set DTC P0087.

See if you can find out which DTCs are in the ECM by checking in Diag Mode.
Best of luck.

After a couple of months my bike started to cycle the pump after it was shut off. Sometimes it would do it and other times it would not. The dealer looked at it several times and found no problem. Then a bulletin came out that said it was normal for the pump to cycle after the bike was shut off. The thing that I didn't like is mine was never consistent. After a while it started to set a code p0193. The dealer checked it out a couple more times and found nothing. I noticed the fuel pressure would drop down rapidly after the bike was shut off and the pump would prime because of that. Recently the bike was in again for repairs and they were able to diagnose it as a bad fuel rail pressure sensor. They installed a new sensor but the weather has been so cold that I have not been able to verify that this actually fixed the problem.

Thanks for your ideas guys. Zac, thanks for looking it up!

They do have the electrical diagnostics manual, they wiggled and tested pretty much every connection between the ECM and the fuel system, re-flashed the ECM but still no change. I don't know which DTC it was, amazingly 4 out of 6 mechanics in the shop dropped what they were doing to work on it, I was looking over their shoulders but I couldn't see everything that was happening, and I was told I could only watch if I didn't keep asking questions (fair enough).

It's 6:30 in the morning here now, I'll speak to them a bit later and find out what the codes were, if there's likely to be a delay with parts I'll message Court to see if he can help. I've got a couple of days off now, was planning a long ride to finish off my run - in period.... I guess that will have to wait for a while. I still love the bike, and kinda knew that some teething problems were a possibility, so I'm not discouraged at all so far.

Thanks again for your help

Chevycummins, looks like I have the same problem you did, dodgy pressure sensor in the fuel rail. Again, unfortunately HD Australia don't have one in stock, but apparently there are a lot of parts from the FI system which are from a Ford car injection system (!) so it may be possible to get hold of one soonish. Being New Year's Eve tonight, timing is not fantastic, but we'll see how it goes.

Chevycummins, when the dealer was looking in to your fuel pressure bleed did they ever mention a spec for an acceptable amount of time for the pressure to taper off?
I sat by my bike while i ate lunch the other afternoon and my pump consistently runs every 15 seconds, for about 1&1/2 seconds each time, for 5 minutes or so. This seems pretty quick for the pressure to bleed down but i cant find a spec for this in either the service or electrical diagnostic manuals....

I suspect the leak would either be in the pump check valve or the fuel pressure regulator. I don't have a big puff of smoke when i start up so i know its not the injectors bleeding down.

my CR had a fuel pump issue 15 miles after i took off from the dealer my fuel line burst right after the fuel pump, they towed it back and took a fuel pump assembly of an 08 and put it on the same day

Skylerxb12r, sounds like the exact same symptom mine had. I called Buell and the dealer called about a spec on fuel pressure drop. Neither of us had any luck. They said it should drop slowly but I could not get any more info out of them. I still suspect that the check valve in the pump is leaking on these bikes. Once the weather warms up I'll see what happens. Sorry I can't be any more help than that.
