Couple of questions for you Buell Tech's out there...

1. I have an odd intermittent throttle response issue. Basically if I let the bike set for more than 2 days. The throttle will have a lag or hesitation when twisted. Ride the bike for an hour or so and it goes away. Linkage all looks good and there doesn't appear to be any binding. TPS max is a little odd though as it never reaches 100% and varies where the top end stops. Varies from 89% - 93%. Looking at the linkage, they are reaching the stops, but still not registering 100%. Before this problem it was reaching 100% every time on max twist. I have performed the TPS reset procedure several times to no avail. Any idea what the problem could be?

2. I've had the bike in 3 times to get the RevB clutch cover installed. They keep sending me home without completing the install due to having to order additional parts. The last time it was cause they say the piston has to be replaced as the design changed with the revb clutch cover. Is this true?

In answer to question 2, no the piston has not changed according to my parts books. Although if your piston was boogered up from the original clutch cover it may need replacing.

Yes, you need a new piston with the new cover.

Thanks Jedi!

Eric here's the list of things they forgot to order with the new cover.

Trip 1. The cover (go figure)
Trip 2. various gaskets and o-rings.
Trip 3. Piston and the sticker(1125R label on clutch cover).

I go in tomorrow for attempt #4. I had to remind them about the sticker. They hadn't even thought about it.

Spectrum,

Have you disconnected the solenoid's cable and locked the throttle yet?

Also adjust you throttle cables to near zero end play.

Finally, spray lube the shafts/linkages on the t-bodies and perform the TPS reset procedure.

You should then have 2~100 percent TPS readings via the dash/diagnostic. mm

Thanks Sly.

I have not disconnect the solenoid yet. I do have the noid eliminator, but kind of wanted to solve this issue before I started making changes.

I will try the lube and TPS reset.

Yes, you need a new piston with the new cover.

If this is the case, then don't you need to fit a new sleeve as well?

Got my new clutch cover installed today. For those wondering, here's a complete list of part numbers from my work order:

CE0006.1AM - Ring, Retaining
CF0001.1AM - O-Ring
CF0007.1AMA - O-Ring DIN 3771-45X2-N (x2)
CF0010.1AM - O-Ring
CR0001.1AM - Piston Lining
CR0002.1AM - Piston Lining
H0412.1A0 - Crush Washer
M0741.1AM - Graphic, Clutch Cover
R1029A.1AM - Diaphragm Ring (Clutch CV)

There are various other O-Rings, Gaskets and Oil Seals that were entered into the work order then reversed out.

Hope this helps others avoid the problems I had with having to take it in multiple times due to needing to order additional parts.

anyone know of an easy way to shorten the throttle throw? I find it awkward when trying to hit the throttle stop (WOT) as I normally ride with the wrist down. The only time I seem to be able to get the throttle to hit the stop is when I raise my wrist over the grip--this is not a natural way to ride tho.

Something cambered (if that is the right word) that would allow for normal small throttle adjustments at low RPM, then let 'er rip very quick at about 50% and greater throttle opening.

Woah, thanks for posting this. I was about to install the Rev. B outer clutch cover myself, and thought that I had all the parts necessary. Hope these extras aren't too expensive! : )

Could this parts mismatch maybe explain why some folks have persistently weepy clutches?

BTW, is there going to be a Service Manual update? Any place I can get the install information myself?

Pariah,

All this should be in the 09 Service and Parts Manuals as this is the setup on those models.

Here are the other parts (the ones reversed out). I assume they reused the originals but put them on the work order to make sure they had them available in case they were damaged and needed to be replaced.

CF0023.1AM O-Ring, DIN 3771-17X2-N
R0009.1AM - Gasket
X0077.1AM - Seal, OIL A 20X35X7 FPM

Thanks a lot, Bryan.

Do you happen to know if the '09 Service and Parts Manuals are out yet?

Cheers,
Takis

Frank, thanks for posting that, too. Should save me a lot of time at the dealership (where they are nice, but a bit clueless about Buell)!
