Found this while reading an article linked on the Quickboard. All the discussion there is about the 1190RS, but Erik says the dirt bike is back on the drawing board!

Google translation from a Italian article covering an interview with Erik by Alan Cathcart:

quote:

EB - For the moment I think the symbol will appear on the tank Erik Buell Racing. But it is not necessarily only road bikes. Among my projects there are in fact off-road motorcycles. For some time I think of it even if one has not happened yet, but now we are near.

AC – This is new! Some other technical details?

EB – Special Rotax single cylinder engine of 450 cc. We are not looking to produce the lightest bike ever, but very light, but more reliable than competitors, which requires little maintenance and is very easy to start. It will have an aluminum frame that will also serve as the fuel tank and other attractions of the genre. At the time of Harley Davidson have spent years and many millions of dollars on this project, but then the manager decided it was not suitable for the Buell brand. We knew however that many dealers would have liked that there were also range in off-road motorcycles. The stop came in late 2006 and early 2007 and I think that that was the beginning of the end of the Buell.

Fixed that for ya! : )

I'm pretty well behaved on my streetbikes, but even my KLR-250 (which made less peak HP then my kids KX-60... no joke) was turning me into a minor hooligan.

If I had street plates on my KDX-200 (now a tuned 225), I'd be doomed to end up in traffic court in very short order....

I have been running my little 125 out on the bike trails.... pure ninja hooliganism. By the time anyone is called, I am gone, long gone ! It is the fence post chasing we did as kids. No lights, no tags, no plate, pure adrenaline, moxy and a full moon. yahhhoooooo

Please don't tear up the mtb trails. A lot of work goes into making them.
Also, don't be surprised if one day a big log appears in the middle of a sweeper. There are several things that MTB groups will do to trails to stop dirt bikes from tearing up their trails.

With that said, responsible riding can be done on MTB trails. But i have witnessed many times dirt bike riders tearing up new sections for trails. I also refused to be witness to what happened to a repeat offenders truck while he was riding on the MTB trail.

This is the old school tard I am building right now. An EBR dirt squirter would also be in the stable, and a proper sumo set-up added to it.

I have a plated klx450r i ride a lot in the Mi orv system. organized trail rides ,dual sport with hero sections and the occasional enduro. If EBR could build a similar machine and beat the weight by 20lbs. I`m in,also under 10 grand. A KTM 350,500 exc challenger, I`ll keep what I got a couple more seasons, then back to orange if nothing happens. Gotta be a D.O.T. bike so I can be legal when I come out of the woods to get some lunch and fuel. I also want to get back out west, always fun getting to know a new bike out there. Also many more SDM rides to do

Gotta miss it this year due to a wedding but I haven`t missed many since 93!

Any news on this?

I've been looking at ATKs hardcore lately!

Or a way to stuff a Blast engine into an ATK frame...

Hero Moto out of India just helped EBR with an infusion of cash.
They have a light duty dirt bike at 149 cc - the Impulse
Using the Shelby approach - cram a 450 cc in the frame rails and run it !

but I know EBR will come out with a more innovative and capable frame / suspension than is currently available in the Hero line up.... just hoping it is soon !
