Of course the $1M question is has LAP come up with the cash or found investors to support development and production of all these new models, or are they just touting big plans and hoping they’ll finally find a buyer for EBR/Buell?

Hey, maybe LAP invested big in Bitcoin when it was cheap and now they’re cash-flush.

OR, (I hope, and firmly believe this is not the case), its all smoke and mirrors to move the last of the EBR inventory before the balance goes to scrap. I'm willing to concede the possibility, but I think the earliest "tell" will be those quick to market 1190 SX touring pack accessories. If they actually sell a few of those kits it suggests money is still being invested in new product development.

I don't even care if the "new" RX, SX or even AX are parts bin bikes at first. I'm happy to see an American made motorcycle company throwing their hat in the ring. Bill M obviously has some Buell passion and is definitely putting his money where his mouth is.
Will you?

I agree with you, Shaggin, completely! Competition is good when it stimulates innovation and creativity. This comes in many distinctive ways. It can be quality, leading edge technology, service, image even racing performance. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday. (Which is why I was surprised H-D sold Buell originally.) In any case, I LOVE it when America competes! Whatever Bill M's plans are in developing a distinction I wish him complete success and I for one will be supporting him in whatever way possible.

The reason I’ve rooted for Erik is, throughout my lifetime and even now, fun, responsive American motorcycles have been extremely hard to come by.

I wish Erik was still part of Buell, but even if he’s not, Bill Melvin is continuing his legacy and any chance we have at a great American motorcycle will be thanks to Erik, and, hopefully, Bill Melvin’s faithful continuation of Erik’s legacy.

I don’t know what kind of animosity exists between them, but Melvin would be smart to make an effort to bring Erik on as a consultant - even if it’s only a symbolic role.

But no matter what, I’m hoping for an ongoing real American sport-bike that was originally envisioned and brought to life by Erik.

The concept is too good to die and just be relegated to history, and I’ll support Melvin and hope he doesn’t screw it up.

Erik may not be legally allowed to work with Bill. Remember, Erik is now working for (and part owner) of an electric motorcycle company. If Bill is true to his word, he plans on developing electric motorcycles under the Buell banner and that would be a clear conflict of interest.

Unless investments were made in either or both directions to form a consortium.

I've always thought that would be a good idea for the small fringe manufacturers to "share" their dealer networks, and provide access to consortium members service capabilities, especially if their products do not directly compete with each other. ( a 185 HP superbike and an electric commuter would be two good examples.)

It would broaden their market reach, and augmenting a manufacturers few invested dealers with, "affiliated" dealers having access to parts and support, would bolster customer confidence in their purchase.
I would assume the OEM discount for an affiliated dealer would have to be significantly less than a financially committed dealer for any given product line.

The 'tone' of Eriks posts seem to suggest he's happy with the distance?
Just me guessing though.

Here’s an interesting video posted on the Facebook Buell Owners Group page explaining where the Buell Motorcycle Company is headed:

Lord he got so much wrong.

But it's exactly what most non-Bueller perceive as "The Story" so....

It's also funny how the ONE short ride video he took on a rental, high mile, 11year old, poorly tuned (popping and banging) XB-9Sx now represents EVERY BUELL MADE. C'mon man.

Yeah, Buells are mostly worst than that popping and banging XB9 he rode.

Just as modern Triumphs are Triumphs, and modern Indians are Indians... these are (for better or for worse) Buells. I wouldn't mind seeing an American-made SPORT bike again.

On the other hand, I'm kinda over ICE bikes in general and eagerly waiting to see what Erik can produce in the upcoming Fllow...

Okay not by Buell but still a "Buell" maybe no elves but my forks brakes and some other bits that cross over to XB's will be available new for a while longer because of this, I'll take it as good news.

Good point . . .

You won't have to do like I did and buy about 2 of every part for a Ulysses. I have racks of parts from my American Sport Bike Survival Pack.

Good stuff.

EBR apparently acquired the Buell brand name and trademarks from Harley-Davidson. I do not see HD giving the Buell name away or even selling it cheap. Why would EBR invest in the name if they only intended to sell a few bikes from a part’s pile?

A mystery… Perhaps HD is planning to become the Buell dealer and sell and service the bikes again, but it is too soon to announce the deal. I am just speculating. EBR needs dealers and service centers to have any hope of coming back.

EBR expects the users will service the motorcycles. They released the videos for the users.

>>>>I do not see HD giving the Buell name away or even selling it cheap.

No one gave away or sold anything.

As I have previously posted, about 6 years ago, Harley-Davidson simply abandoned all the trademarks and intellectual rights.

If curiosity overcomes you and you suddenly get a thirst for facts . . . simply go the USPTO website and confirm.

Buell, the one that I bought and have loved and enjoyed since 1987, is history. It was a great run.

Erik Buell is immersed in new technology and writing music.

The LAP folks appear to have collected all the spare parts, pieces and leftovers they could gather and introduce a "new" model . . . with technology over a decade dated.

There will linger, for years, a contingent fueling rumors about "Buell back in business".

Buell, the person, is in business and I'd wager just as enthusiastically as ever. Buell, the company, ran it's natural course, still binds many of us as a common interest, but has long ago ceased producing anything but enthusiasm.

OTOH, Court... decades old technology is going to be a LOT easier for the home mechanic to maintain than what is currently being offered. For those you need a PhD in electronics and computer science (not to mention a fortune in electronic diagnostics equipment and the training to use them).

Could not agree more.

I have a 1952 sitting right here that anyone can work on.

:-)

My point is that the claims of "new and improved" ring hollow. There is nothing on the current crop of bikes that didn't exist 10 years ago.

What would you guess their total capacity is?

I'd wager it's significantly less than the early days of S2 production. Which, if I recall correctly, was 8 bikes per day (at least at one point during the S2 days it was the target). But we weren't building the powertrains then...

"I have a 1952 sitting right here that anyone can work on."

Ain't that the truth. Every time I get on my 1939 9N, with a wiring harness of I think 10 wires, I pull the enrichener and hit the start button, and it fires.

I’ve always said . . . I love the stuff that . . . As long as it had spark, compression and fuel will run..

It may run poorly. . . But, it w8ll run.

I keep a 1952 and a 1960 here just to remind me.
