Interesting that this is only referencing EBR bikes and not Buells generally. I wonder why?

Likely because they are show casing EBR . . . .

Regardless . . . having Jens there is going to make this a great event. He's a legend that any EBR oner would be interested in talking to.

Court has it spot on, we are showcasing EBR's, a first for us given their low numbers in Europe. I'm told that approximately 200 were sold in Europe, with 20 or so in the UK.

We're very lucky to have Jens as a special guest. His involvement with Erik, Buells and EBR goes back a long way.

We expect that Buells will easily outnumber EBR's at the event but we hope to attract all makes of motorcycle. The National Motorcycle Museum is a great venue for an event, we've used it many times.

If any of our American cousins would like to buy one of the special EBR England T-shirts we'll offer them at $35 USD including shipping. Details of the shirt design and size chart can be found here: http://www.ukbuellgroup.co.uk/437943781

In the first instance please reply on this topic so we can gauge the level of interest. The shirts will be made to order in one or two batches.

Chris:

Are Colonists invited?

Jens is about as smart as they come . . . he's one of those silent folks . . . a Gary Valine or Gary Stippach type of fellow who played a huge role in shaping the performance characteristics of Buell and who seldom stuck his head out of the foxhole.

I hope Jens gets a chance to speak about some of his work. If I had to characterize him . . . . I'd say "while a lot of the world was talking . . Jens was doing".

The UKBEG family . . . like the rabid groups in Italy (both North and South) and Japan . . . played a pivotal role in Buell and EBR.

During those days, long before anyone here had heard of Buell . . . I enlisted the help of one of the fellows from the old "AOL "RIDE" forum to get a lot of info for me about Brits . . . how they rode . . their habits, needs and wants . . . this was long before a Buell left the U.S.A for anywhere except the RSSs to Japan.

Interesting that one of the key folks who kickstarted Buell in Europe is now President of Harley-Davidson.
Court

I also hope you bring Simon out for this event . . . he's quiet but smart as a whip and could add a lot to any discussion.

You guys and gals pretty much rock . . . .

Yes, of course, we'd very much welcome visitors from the USA. Most of us (including Jens) will be staying at the Arden Hotel for the event: http://www.ardenhotel.co.uk/

My wife, Jane and I visited Jens and his family in Sweden last year. Prior to this we'd met him at various track events in Germany and the Netherlands when Buell and EBR were going concerns. It's fascinating listening to him talk about 'the good old days'.....

Jens'commitment to EBR in Europe was awesome. When the company was on it's knees financially he organised a stand at MC Massan, the annual motorcycle show in Stockholm, Sweden.

EBR Europe paid for the stand and my flight and Jens' family/team built and manned the stand. His colleague Par evicted his mother from her flat in Stockholm so we could all live there for free throughout the show.

It was a great event, we sold some bikes, signed up two new dealers and established a good relationship with the Scandinavian press. Shame it didn't last.

Matt did a great job for Buell in Europe along with his highly enthusiastic aide, Scott Miller. I bought Matt's Company Owned White Lightning when he went back to the US and still have it now.

I'd bet one of these is your 's . . . these are the one's we sent Matt. Two of them belonged to my roommate, being used for homologation, before they went. Each, by the way was neat and they had a few interesting quirks.

Extra points if you have the one we did for Matt with the White heads.

Sounds like a really fun day. John with Splitlath is a great guy to talk to. I met him at the IOM ‘14 and he was excited to be campaigning EBR and more than happy to let fans walk around the pits and ask questions. He’s more than a racer or fan of EBR with his investment.

Thanks, Court. Matt told me a few years ago that it was a pre-production prototype. I'm away from the bike and paperwork at the moment but I'll check and let you know. It had the race exhaust but standard breadbin and rear fender at the time I bought it. It also had a kilometre clock. It looks a little different now!

The S1WL was . . . likely no surprise to anyone here . . . about as much fun to design and build as it was to ride.

Lots of things were moving at the time and Buell was, arguably, it it's heyday.

Stuff like the shape of the tank . . . when Mike came up with the Molten Orange and Nuclear Blue . . . and Molten Orange . . . thanks to the High-Voltage Yellow debacle . . could have an entire book written about just the color alone.

We made something approaching 50 pre-production bikes that went to a wide variety of legit, less than legit and just downright nefarious places. . . .

Great times.

For some reason . . . I kept a record of all of them which these days is a reminder of just how damn much fun we had.

Enjoy ! !

Well . . . congratulations . . what you have there is the REAL DEAL.

That was the 92nd S1WL built . . . the 3rd of the bikes built for Matt.

Here's some data you might enjoy . . . .

By the way . . . the "Exceptions" for that bike was that it had the new S1WL White Lightning motor.

 1998 S1WL Motor

We were building them with a variety of motors . . . some of the early "media" bikes were built (the S1WL motor wasn't ready) with "photo moto" stuff. . . . a couple others with an interesting assortment of iterations.

Your's has THE motor you want in a bike to collect or ti simply enjoy the hell out of it . . .

Well done . . that is a beauty.

What is the turn around on the tanks? I'd love to get one to stick here in what is effectively becoming the "de facto museum".

The final arrangements have been made for this special one-off event. All the guests have confirmed their attendance and we'll have a good selection of road and race EBR machines on display.

The event promises to be a major celebration of all things EBR and Buell.

Got the shirt yesterday. It fits great and is a great design. Glad I own this piece of Buell culture. At this rate, Buell is pretty much fed by grass roots drive and creativity. Fun fun.
