Note- it says the engines are in Grand Rapids, MI, which I believe is LAP's HQ location.

Do we know why some EBR assets ended up at LAP? Did they really pay to move engines and bikes and parts to their location? Wonder if that was a requirement, or if they just wanted assets under their own roof?

The lease payments have likely stopped on the buildings on Buell Drive.

And . . . bonus . . . one of the GREAT stories, if a next book gets done . . will have to do with the buildings on Buell Drive. Of, of a host, of the funniest things that happened while starting up all the various EBR entities had to do with the 2799 Buell Dr. building.

I hope the day comes that I get to tell Keith Wandell . . . . . . . he'll shit.

"You got fooled by the Bruce decoy as well . . . don't feel bad . . . many did. "

Court, could you elaborate on this? Why do you call it a decoy?

Court that is probably true about most of us sitting on the side lines waiting. But their are some other reasons besides waiting for the right model to show up. My bone was the lack of dealerships in parts of the country, I live south of Portland and the closest dealer is on the backside of Lake Washington. You know what the traffic is like up there. At least that is my story and I am sticking to it. Mostly we all found a reason to just be Fanboys.

I truly believe that if EBR had been able to sell 5,000 bikes in 2014 then Hero would have stuck around and we would have 4 or 5 different EBR models to chose from right now. I know everyone here likes to make Hero the villain but IMO it was just simple economics. They had already thrown 25 million at the company and had very little to show for it. At some point you just cannot keep throwing money at something and hope the results change. THAT IS UNLESS YOU ARE THE GOVERNMENT.

Dan I know you and many others have more insight to EBR than I, but I can't shake the feeling that what Hero did was invest enough as a minority partner to get the core of the company committed to Hero, then push the EBR credit limit to the wall, presuming when Erik had his back to the wall, they could shake him down for the majority interest, or the entire company.
To me it seemed like schoolyard bully tactics. Erik may have spent most his lunch money, but the bully never got any of it, and he gave em a bloody nose on his way past. I respect that a lot, it shows both courage, and principle.
LAP invested, just not enough, and I'll bet they would have been happy to sell it as a going entity, but there were no buyers. they did what they do. I wish they would have been more forthcoming, but I also understand they wanted to maximize their return. (nothing personal, it's just business..)

With around 138,000 total production of bikes with Erik Buells name in the design credits, (not counting the work he did on HD models), and presuming most bikes change hands 2-3 times in their lifecycle, that means Erik Buell has pasted stupid goofy grins on about a half a million riders around the world.

I didn't buy an EBR because I couldn't afford it, and it didn't suit my needs. I couldn't justify cutting into a perfectly good $18k $15k, or even $8k bike to make it what I wanted, especially since I wouldn't have had it paid for yet. But believe me I was waiting for the day the model I really wanted was available, or I could afford a good used one to modify. (that day is closer now)

You are neglecting the other bikes that Erik Buell either designed, totally or in part, for other manufacturers.

Shhhhhhhhh

That would be cool to know. If we can't buy new bikes he built, we could at least buy new bikes he designed.

Buelliedan,

That would have required nearly as many sales in one year than the total production of 1125R over 3 years. Not sure that was an achievable goal without better marketing, press, and impressive wsbk race results. I think what most saw was a mid pack also ran. Which wasn't going to inspire squids running to the dealerships.

I saw the list price when they were announced and wrote off any consideration immediately. Paid them no real attention until the 2015 shutdown.

Court,

I imagine the side mount radiators honda used 20 years ago were licensed? If so, Erik could have benefited from some open recognition of that fact from honda. At the time the only buell i saw was a used S1 a customer tried to sell me. I loved how tiny it was and the way it sounded but the shaking at idle made me think something was very wrong. lol Hey i was raised on japanese bikes and they were always smooth.

It was probably best that Erik wasn't publicly linked with the VR1000 that i can remember. They were always laying on the track burning.

Had Erik Buell had his way . . had his frame design been used instead of sacrificing that valuable air volume to fuel . . . there would have been far fewer laying on the track,

Thank Steve S.

Probably very true. And if Willie had not _ucked over the engine, a liquid cooled Buell would have hit the market while the sport bike sales boom was still ongoing.

I won a substantial amount on parts an 1190 engine, TI valves, cams, clutch covers ect. The list is massive, I only need a few parts and will be selling everything off at a really decent non price gouging price. I will be going to EBR to pickup, how big are the items you won? I might be able to land a hand.

I think I just won the SX mockup bike on the RS frame. I plan to travel to pick it up next week. I expect room in the 4X8 trailer and my truck if anyone needs anything picked up.
I admit I feel a bit like the dog that finally caught the bus. I have assurances form my insurance agent if I can get it titled I can get it insured, and the MNDOT says if nothing else, it can be titled and registered as a "collector". ( I've verified this in the state statutes.)
The adventure begins.

Ace and Oddball

What did you need from those lots?
Anything related to 1125 is yours.

I only need one set of rims/tires. If you go and take a few good pics, I'll take what I need and you can have at it.
