I was just wondering- do you think we'll see 2017 models from EBR? It's been posted that starting with the 2016 model year, all motorcycles sold in Europe must have ABS. I'd guess adding ABS to the SX and RX is one of EBR's top priorities so that they can resume bike sales in Europe. Other than that, I'd guess they're pretty much limited to "bold new colors" (if that) for changes to the bikes at this point.

Any info or speculation?

I don't know Hughlysses, it seems that things are eerily quiet at E.B.R. ,with no updates on their website other than fans occasionally posting things on facebook I hope I am wrong but I honestly don't think things are going to good for them .Many dealers I know have been approached by them and all have turned them down which is to bad because they do make a wonderful bike.

^ They do post updates to Facebook fairly regularly, and Dan Hurda is watching the EBR 1190 Owner's Group there and occasionally posts info for owners. They did add one dealer ~2 weeks ago, which doesn't sound like a big deal but that did increase the number of dealerships by 7%.

Hopefully the lack of "chatter" means they are busy doing good things behind the scenes.

2017 models are in the works from what I understand. I wouldn't expect ABS though.

LAP is going to have to re-think the terms they are offering dealers if they really want to grow IMO.

I just have to say that I am thoroughly disgusted with the lack of interest in an American sport bike by the corporate leaders of our country. It really is sad that with all the success this country has had no one has come forward to help establish this amazing motorcycle. Boggles the mind.

Dan- They did finally get floor room financing set up (see here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/253 912/790518.html?1469652899).

Is that a significant help to dealers?

it is significant only if a dealer does not already have floor planning set-up.

When I was a dealer EBR picked up the first 6 months of floor planning for us so that really helped. I don't think they are doing that now. A dealer pays interest every month that a bike is sitting on the floor. On average about $100 a month for a bike with an EBR price.

So every month that bike does not sell is eating away at the potential profit that bike can make. If it can only make a dealer say $1,500 profit if it sold right away, after 6 months on the floor that leaves very little for the dealer. Especially if he also has to pay his salesperson a commission on the sale which most dealers do.

Then throw in overhead, taxes, etc and you can see how it doesn't leave much profit.

Motorcycle sales is a tough business right now. Most shops live off parts sales and service. The actual bike sales barely break even for many dealerships.

How accurate is that online registry? It shows only 2 2016 models sold to customers.
Can that be right?

Buelliedan,

I've always heard about dealers having to pay for a bike as it sits on the showroom floor, but I have never understood why.

If you go to Home Depot and look at the tool section, you can find some $500-$1,000 compressors or other high-ticket items, and I've seen them sit there for months, even years, with more in stockroom, and I guarantee they're not paying any flooring cost, so why do M/C dealers have do this? And who do they pay it to?

>>>I guarantee they're not paying any flooring cost

Anything that takes up space in a store has a cost . . . you would not believe the battles, bribery and payola that goes on to get Rice Crispies on a shelf at eye level.

>>>, so why do M/C dealers have do this?

All sellers of large ticket items do. Try starting a Bugatti dealer and keeping just 2 Veyrons in stock.

Better examples . . . . next time you drive past a Caterpillar tractor dealer . . . with some D8 and D9 tractors our front . . . I assure you they did not write the check for those 10's of millions.

Interesting tidbit . . . my sons company operates all over the world and does "asset verification". Harley-Davidson and Caterpillar are a couple of his customers. His folks walk, unannounced, into dealers at random times . . . to check and make sure that the the asset someone if paying the floor plan on actually exists. They do Caterpillar dealers and Harley in something like 10 countries. Anything from diamond rings to Mitsubishi Diamond jets.

>>And who do they pay it to?

they pay it to a commercial credit firm . . .could be Eaglemark (or whoever HD is using) or . . in the case of EBR . . G.E. Capital. Think of it as a bank. They loan you the 2 million for the D8 . . you pay only interest (the "floor plan" cost) then you sell it for $2.5 million . . pay them off and pocket what's left.

And just as an aside, GE Capital's North American Finance business was acquired by Wells Fargo earlier this year.

Motorcycle.com responds to the question: "Should I Buy a Buell?" (the writer clearly should have said EBR)

I like the way these guys think.
