I was trying to look into the liquidation company that was trying to purchase EBR and when I went to their web site (http://liquidap.com) Their homepage was just a video slandering Liquid Asset partners for trying to liquidate EBR. Is this what the page is for everybody?

I'm guessing the judge for the receivership hearing might not view this very favorably.

I've already shared my thoughts elsewhere but that may have been the nail in the coffin.

Nothing like having to deal with collateral damage because some moron was trying to be cute. Good grief.

Sigh. More idiots like Anonymous.

They have proved two things that were already obvious:

1) It's hard and expensive for non IT companies to protect an online property over time.

2) Some passive aggressive coward with no respect for other people's time and money can always find some window, either virtual or real, to throw a rock through

I am no fan of Liquid Assets, but I have substantial experience in the information security field, and I'll offer a free one hour analysis and another free one hour consulting call to help triage if they would like help with the situation, just to try and undo the stink somebody ostensibly "on my side" left in the room.

Hopefully the perp will be identified so those of us with good intentions for EBR can publicly distance ourselves from him/her. That was just plain stupid, and I hope whoever is responsible feels the full wrath of whatever consequences might be applicable, legal, physical or otherwise.

Likely few. Again, its like a rock through a window. Some punk runs up in a ninja suit, throws a rock through a front window of a retail store, and declares "I am a genius because I showed I can throw a rock through your window".

Meanwhile, the adults in the room are all thinking "of course you can throw a rock through a window, all that requires is somebody willing to be an , and we have always had them with us". And they sweep up the glass, spend their time and money to fix the window, and go back to their lives... because they want a better life than one where every retail establishment has steel shutters instead of windows.

The FBI will give this just as much attention as they would somebody throwing a rock through a window too. Which is to say "very little", unless it is part of a larger issue or they want the perp for something else and want another piece of firewood to put under them as they tie them to the stake...

Again........ The thousand cuts.

Each one of these distractions bleeds resources and hope disproportionately.

The Wisconsin Court, at this point ....to the outside observer.....looks like a collection of ill informed mediocre law students squeezing from a label clown car.

"34 eager bidders"....."just need time to prepare" ( if you believe any of the majors need "time" to scrape together a couple $$M.... ) .... "Anonymous bidders".... Ex-officio "no need to bid, we've a ringer" ..... No court would tolerate that level of chicanery.

Time, in this case, is like an avalanche of boulders coming down a mountain.

The people who could make a deal work are throwing up hands...,, wishing those behind the best.... And moving on.

This begs for a strong leader and some leadership. Even an entrepreneurial genius needs help every so often.

I suspect something is fishy here...that looks similar to but not the same as the web site I looked at recently that supposedly belonged to the company that submitted the high bid in the recent EBR auction.

I'm going to look a bit further.

(BTW, the video won't play on an iPad.)

Edited to ask if anyone else noticed the OP registered today, and the above is his first and only post?

This, I believe, is the real web site.

^ Yes, but notice there's a link in the menu on the left side of the page that says "visit our new website" that takes you to the one with the video. So maybe the hacker hacked the legitimate website to add the links to the bogus website, and set up the bogus website with the video.

Too quick to jump to what conclusions? Registering a domain under false pretenses, and deliberately masquerading as another site, then propagating those links, is just one of many ways to "hack" a site.

In fact, given the effectiveness of phishing, it is probably the currently most common form of criminal "hacking".

And. . . by the way . . the key word here is "criminal". This is not a prank and, I suspect, will have many repercussions.

If I were the Liquid Assets folks I'd have a Show Cause Motion files by the time the Court opened tomorrow.

They appear (although accounts range from sketchy to stupid) to have been the sole and legitimate bidder.

Bidder qualification precedes the auction. If they were unqualified or of the Court had any reservations about accepting a bid from a liquidator that SHOULD have all been done in advance.

It's much like the Construction Law class I teach at Columbia and bidders getting qualified on public and private projects. If an owner qualifies a bidder and they are the low bidder on a project . . . it gets darn tough to say . . . "well we vetted them, qualified them and allowed them to bid but we NEVER thought they'd be successful".

Case law abounds.

We now appear to have criminals and kooks sharing a commercial lifeboat . . . as I said in another thread. This thing is begging for a leader and leadership. I suspect law firm, not based in a strip mall, would be a step in the right direction as well.

What a shambles.

That link has been there, and has taken anyone who has clicked on it to a legitimate Liquid Assets Partners website, at least since information leaked out that they were the high bidder. I checked their websites out as soon as they were mentioned to see if there was any information of interest regarding EBR - there wasn't, and there wasn't a video attempting to 'save EBR'.

many are too quick to jump to conclusions.
I'm not jumping to conclusions, I'm utilizing my personal experiences which I would consider data in this situation.

Would you mind sharing your 'data'?

It seems like a reasonably good bet that the originator of this thread "1190fan" (new as of today) has detailed knowledge of the hacking.

Perhaps a Badweb administrator could contact him and persuade him to reverse his hack?

'reversing the hack' would be an additional criminal act. If indeed it was hacked in the first place.

Anyone who knows me at all knows that I don't condone, abide, or approve of this type of underhanded reputation bashing or otherwise mean-spirited attacks. My team and I have nothing to do with this "hack", we want nothing to do with it, and if the hacker is reading this, we insist that the damage be undone immediately. Acts like this do nothing to help, and only hurt, our efforts to preserve and rebuild EBR. This is a legal fight, and will be successfully resolved on the basis of legal and factual issues, not by dirty tricks.

Bill Melvin may be the adversary, but that does not give anyone the right to harm his business or reputation. Let this dispute be resolved by the Court as it rightly should be.
