I noticed these partially finished Buell engine cases on ebay recently:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Buell-XB-3-6-En gine-Aluminum-Race-Cases-/180649090289?pt=Motorcyc les_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0f865cf1

It would take a lot of machining to finish them. Wonder if it'd be worth the trouble?

Trap door for transmission sure is nice to have. Wonder if it is for the existing transmission or an XBRR tranny?

I guess the XBRR tranny had straight cut gears for durability?

I'm guessing this must have been a pre-XBRR engine case. IIRC, the XBRR had the Pegasus logo cast into the cases near the base of each cylinder on the cam side, and I don't see that here:

Also notice there appears to be some porosity in the casting at the upper right of the cam cover seating area, maybe they got this far into it, decided it was "suspect", and tossed it. I'd imagine you could grind that part out, build it up with weld, and re-machine though.

I noticed those cases too and first thought the same thing. The XBRR cases did have a Pegasus (what's plural of Pegasus, Pegasi?) cast into the cases by each set of pushrods.

XBRR 2

Ultimately my assumption is that these were just a set of late model XB race only cases, and NOT XBRR - but I've been wrong before...

Technically there is no plural form of Pegasus, as it is the name of one specific winged horse. So technically you should say there are winged horses on the engine case. "Images representing Pegasus" would also suffice. : )

(Yes I was bored)

Those are not XBRR but still pretty trick. THAT'S THE LAST ITERATION OF the formula extreme 3.6" stroke cases. A great basis for a xb build with the time bearing.would be tough to come up with everything though...might consider if it were a Shortblock.
