Hey Chop,

You've born up admirably and have gone waaay beyond the call of duty with regard to patience.

I think I speak for Blake and Badweb when I say "nothing but blue skies" from Badweb to you. But I'm sure you'll get a personal positive from him.

Thanks for your efforts.

Very well done Chop. Buell should hire you to shoot some documentary footage at Laguna Seca next month.

Hello:

I haven't had a bike in some years and I've got the itch. I have a 100 miles/day commute (80 freeway, 10 surface street, no twisty-turny stuff)) and am wondering if a CityX is a good candidate. That's 25k miles/year and 100k in the four more years I expect to work.

Is that a totally unrealistic expectation? Should I be considering a different Buell? Different bike?}

Thanks,

Wannab-

The CityX is an awesome bike, tons of fun. The only strike against it for commuting would be the lack of wind protection which would apply to any naked bike.

I don't think anyone has hit 100k miles with an XB yet, but there are a few badwebbers with XBs in the 40-60k mile range. I don't see any reason to think that an XB wouldn't make it to 100k miles.

Spike-

Thanks! I know I'll want a wind-shield of some sort and I've heard the back tire can make a mess of your clothing in wet weather without some sort of addition.

I appreciate the info about the miles. Tires are something else. My business case would look a bit better if gasoline were higher.

Thanks again,

Hello everyone,
I want to buy a buell. I need one with some room for a passenger. I'm 6'2" 230 lbs and my wife is 6' 130 lbs.
I like to sit a little more upright than a full sporty position.
I think I want a Thunderbolt. I want the one with the best motor. Do any of you have some info for me as far as what year is the best? Any help would really be nice.
I believe the S3T is my best bet. What do all of you think?

Thanks a lot!!

John

John, I'll let the tube-frame guys speak to your questions about the S3T. I always wanted one but gave up on them when they went out of production before I was ready to buy. I would up with a 12R Firebolt instead and I've never looked back. The XBs have a lot going for them.

But, I don't have a passenger. The Ulysses has the benefit of being the newest Buell from an engineering standpoint. I encourage you to also look for a test ride and/or a late-year deal on the Lightning Long, if you don't plan on needing the hard bags.

The M2's might work for you too. They had a couple of inches of extra wheelbase and I find the accomodations pretty good at 6"/220lbs. Should handle your size and needs. The seat is a killer for most people after an hour or two but a rebuild or replacement can cure that.

I've decided to move on to something more cruiser oriented, I think that is more suitable for my age and mentality. If I was going to own two or more bikes I'd keep the M2 and just add to the stable but I can't do that.

The M2 has been a lot of fun and a great intro to the Buells and the H-D V-twins for me. The M2's were made through 2002 and were pretty well debugged, trouble free, and reliable in the last couple of model years.

M2 and S3 are pretty much the same bike under the skin -- S3T is a better 2-up mount, though -- seats a lil bigger (some love em, seatsw that is, some, like Jack, above, ain't so fond of the stock perch, but that's easily altered)

S3 has a better quality fork than the M2, more adjustability (more ways to screw it up, too {grin}) -- the available hard bags make it a great touring mount (though anything can be an Iron Butt sled if you want)

the XB series scoots are much more advanced technologically -- reliability is better, as well (tho any S2 on the street will likely have had all the kinks worked out)

if I was looking for a good 2-up scoot was lookin hard at Buells, I'd include a Uly in the list of things to test ride -- great reports from their owner/operators

Dbuell99tbolt,

It will fit, but it does not have the Oxygen sensor bung on it that your fuel injected bike needs.
