Sadly, they didn't spend quite enough and nobody got around to canceling it. ; )

Folks here have said that a Buell dealer can ask the corporate parts computer if any other dealer has one in their inventory.

Just for grins, I clicked the "competitive bike exchange" link that Google Mail has been showing me all week.

I didn't see the feedback link on the Harley landing page.

I wanted to tell that I currently have a Buell XB9SX, a Kawasaki KDX-200, and a Kawasaki KX-60 in the garage right now, and that sadly, Harley Davidson *has* nothing competitive to offer me since they closed Buell. If they do ever manage to build something competitive, perhaps I will consider them.

Harley Davidson: "Screw bikes. Lets make t-shirts for India".

I wonder what will come of California's (successful) attempt to legalize Marijuana?

To start with, the state would have a budget surplus. (Tax revenue minus burden on legal system.}

I doubt pot consumption would change that much as those inclined to use pot are already doing it.

I could see where a large portion of the Texas population might move to California, though, and I'm not sure how that would work out.

As far as your concerns with pot users causing accidents, it's always been my experience that the big problem driving around stoned wasn't running into stuff, but rather staying focused on the destination, which generally manifested itself as a loss of time and additional consumption of fuel, neither of which was a big deal as the trip was for the most part worth the additional expenditure of both.

Might cause alcohol consumption in the state to decline, though, and that could only save a few lives here and there. On the other hand, a couple of tokes don't do much for the wall flowers around closing time, but there's a price for everything.

All in all, I think it would be a good thing.

How goes the fishing?

My friends are killing mahi like they're going out of style, Reep. For some reason (Karma?) I can't seem to get the grease monkey off my back. I've been continually wrenching on something instead of fishing since the start of the season 2 1/2 months ago. Boat engine, truck engine, every piece of equipment I own that's required for fishing.

I'd like to think the fish-killing gods have shut me down for already having met my life's quota, but I know that's a joke. I'm sure I'm being punished for something out here, I just don't know what. It could have something to do with women, but that's just a hunch.

Your old buddy Dewey's doing the finest kind, though. He just turned six, but he's still doing silly crap and making people laugh, and occasionally demonstrating his amazing loyalty. He sort of balances the scales for all the negative stuff that I experience.

Everybody should have a Dewey in their life.

Hang in there, Pete--soon or later, you'll have fixed everything that can break and you'll get back to fishing!

Hard to belive Dewey's 6--I can remember when you adopted him.

Yeah, I used to hold him in the palm of my hand, Tom.

Lately, I haven't been doing much with any stories, Bill, but ole Dewey inspired me to write a quick one just a little while ago.

It's hard for me to explain this deal with Dewey. Sometimes I think I'm a little off kilter. I mean, he's just a damned dog. But I think inspiration is a good word here. Maybe it's just my perspective that blows everything with Dewey out of proportion. But whatever it is, the result is that my experiences with him make me aware of good things in this world, which isn't all that good some of the time.

I'll post the little story I mentioned over in the Tale section. In this one, Dewey shows me that you can accomplish some amazing things if you want 'em bad enough.

And yeah, Court, that was the best car I ever stole. What a ride that was.

It runs but I'm not sure how far I'd want to take it.
I think the crank seals are shot, it still seems to be a bit lean. The idle doesn't come down like it should.
I've checked everything on the intake side and the base gasket, only thing left is the crank seals...
Man, Utah would be fun..

Captpete, good to see your name here again, it's been forever since I got to enjoy your input.

Iamike, what part of Utah are you coming to and are you bringing your Buell? Maybe we can get some of our guys together and take you for a scenic ride. Or maybe I can put my M2 back together and you could ride that...

Read the story (in May 2010 addition of Cycle World Magazine)of Harley Davidson and it's underhanded cut throat tactics with regards to Buell. Go Eric Buell go, once your year is over, I hope that someone like Bombardier with deep pockets come's along to bring Buell back and harley davidson is left with their hats in their hands, scooping their jaws off the floor.
I know that I will go overseas for a bike before I ever buy a ships anchor from hd.

When going down the road on my honda rebel 250 cmx c2 it stalls (at 40 mph), then i have to break and pull over. This happens after traveling, approx. 20 miles on it from my house to work.

Then it sits in the parking lot at work, outside, for 8 hours (clear skies) and I get on to go home and it stalls out again, like right out of the parking lot after stopping at the stop sign, sitting in first and then turning in first/ shift to second and boom.

FYI: The gas tank is full--I filled it up that morning at a ridiculous, .33 cents.

After the stall from the stop sign some nice people pulled over and asked if i was o.k. , I told them it wouldn't start. he said flip on the reserve, is I did. and it started...

I have 320 miles on it, and it was just serviced, full tune up, oil change, filter, and fluid check.

Anyone have insight to this?

Fuel tank vent problem.... when it is stalled, pop the fuel tank cap open, listen for a sucking sound, and put the cap back and see if it starts (after cranking for a little bit to refill the carb bowls).

I had a Yamaha Radian (with an impossibly complicated fuel lid assembly) that did that...

(And in keeping with this thread, I'm sure Keith Wandell, had he been driving by seeing a motorcyclist broken down, would have shouted "you shoulda bought a Harley", flipped you off, and driven on past ; )).

Just wanted to share this. I sent this to Cycle World after their great Buell article

Thank you for your wonderful article on the Buell legacy! I'm a tried and true lover of Buell for many reason and was so happy to see the in depth articles you had in the last issue. I have another reason to love Buell from this past weekend not to mention the durability of Icon gear! Here are the details:

This past Sunday morning at a bit after Midnight I was riding home from work, my normal route riding my 2008 Buell Ulysses XB12XT. I was in my Icon high viz orange safety vest, Manic helmet, Timax jacket, Merc long gloves, Field Armor boots. (did I mention I like Icon?) I was sitting at a traffic light when a DUI driver hit me from behind, picked the bike up and threw it sideways into the next lane with me under it. Luckily I was able to quickly move the bike off me (wonderful light weight design) and only had bruised legs and shoulder. The police officer was amazed that I did not sustain more injuries and he himself rides and asked what kind of gear I had and proudly said it was all Icon. I will have to get some of my gear replaced with going down and you can count it me getting new Icon gear!

I had my bike taken to Gateway Harley/Buell (who have always been huge Buell supporters) and just got the call.....they went over the bike with a fine toothed comb front to back. Had to re-seat the rear spring and will have to replace my side cases and hand guards. But basically....my bike came through a rear end throw over collision with only minor cosmetic damage. So as soon as the insurance company gets everything signed off, I get my bike back and just have to wait till the cases come in! (left case 3 weeks, right case 1 month for some reason)

So my bike Beast LIVES! Thank you to the Buell staff for making a wonderful motorcycle and to the Icon staff for making awesome gear! ! I will always be loyal to both Buell and Icon especially after this past weekend!!

Nice testimonial Mideon, glad you and your bike made it safely through, could have been so much worse!

New_rider, if it turns out to be a plugged vent line as Reepicheep suggests remove the tank end of the line and blow it out with a compressor and that should clear it unless you've got a breather valve that's stuck or plugged.

If it's not the vent I'd suggest removing your petcock, if it's got two feed lines it's possible the main is plugged with something, it should be fairly obvious if it is. Clean and reinstall.

Laura-
If the vent trial doesn't work make sure that the petcock lever is pointing the right direction. They can be confusing as to which way the pointer is. On our XR the small end is the pointer, on the Suzuki the lever side is the pointer.
I ran out of gas once before I got the owner's manual out to look at it. You know us guys, we don't believe in reeading the manuals for things.
