Change the oil - water gets in there and stuff goes fubar.

If you do change the oil, you can do it without taking off the footpeg mount. It just takes a while to get the oil down the vent tube. Google that and you'll get several places talking about "how" to do this.

I use a tiny funnel that fits nicely in the vent tube (the tube is found on the left side of the frame underneath the seat - it's an uncapped thicker tube...not hard to find.)

Just a thought...

Yes, that is the procedure I was alluding to.
Your choice, change it or not. I respect EZ's advice, you can rarely go wrong there.
If the bike was older, had many more miles, was obviously once very dirty, sat outside a lot or abused, I'd say change it. But thinking its late model, low mileage, probably hasn't been washed much and kept indoors, I'd wait until the next service interval and redo the clutch adjustments and chain adjustments then (which means unbolting the y-frame).

If you just want it changed now, do it the cheater way. Make sure it's hot, drain it immediately after shut down, let it drain a good long time and fill it with one quart exactly, through the trans vent tube (it will be slow, but will still take less time and much less work and aggravation than pulling the y-frame!!)

AND don't go cheap on trans fluid. Buy the best you can. Transmission repairs are costly and time consuming, but with regular fluid changes it will probably outlast your ownership.

Well I was not going too. But if this is the Hose, I found it to pour.
As opposed to removing the y-fame.
That seems way easy. Is this some unknown secret for the Blast ; -)

You just pour the fluid down that hose. Then stick it back into the frame...

I will think about the clutch adjust later.
As you say. It really needs to be used. And it feels really smooth to me as it is.
The bike is wonderfully clean as could be.
I'm Excited to get out riding.

I have Lucus SAE 20w/50 Synth Motorcycle Oil.
I used Amsoil 20w50 for the Oil Change. But I can't find it around lately.

Very happy about this. Thanks guys. Very Grateful.

Still waiting for the hose picture to load.....
The trans vent tube oil change I believe was put forth by Swampy many many years ago!

Speaking of many years ago...how long has Mac been designing a Blast? Seems they might be a bit late on production for any real sales. Will engines even be available when they finally go into production?

That is fantastic. I have looked. And I really have never seen or heard of any one talk of this Hose. Maybe I did not look deep enough.
That you can fill the Transmission Oil. Every one wanted to take off the frame. Or drill holes in it to match the Hex.
Any way many thanks to all.
Here are my trans oil choices.

Yeah and if you leave it there and it pukes oil - it's all over your electrics - sigh - suggest a re-route. Or you could contact Thumpe and have hime make a custom spitcan for you like mine - does both primary and top end - lol - used both - both are good.

Forgive my naïveté. How often might it 'spit oil'?
I would gladly have Dan do something, catch canny ; -).
Doesn't every one who has a Blast just leave it there?
Or even know that you might need a spitcan. And or have one put in.
Just curious...

Thanks for the tips. I'd like to just use one oil for both and call it a day.

If you have a stock Blast it could "spit" very little, to overfilling the can in a short time. If you've redone the top end and rerouted the PCV oil line out of the intake, it could "spit" near nothing (as in never empty the can).
You're really better off venting it to the ground or checking the can very frequently until you find out which end of the spectrum you're on. I don't see the need for a catch can unless you'll be using it on the track or your Blast is leaving an oily spot in your garage. Otherwise, if it fills up and you don't empty it, you could suck all that nasty oil substance into your engine.

Now that I think of it. I did see that Can that Dan made for you ez. The three inlet/outet. I asked him about it at the time. But I just did not understand it then. No research I did said there was a hose under the seat. Guess I didn't look deep enough.
This is what I have set up now. Plus Jardine. 46-180 jetting. IdleSpeed. Idle Mix screws. Yost Tube, Blue needle, shim and spring. The Oil Line is going out to the ground.. But not the Trans Oil Line.

Although it looks good. It will not be doing any Track racing or any racing ; -). Just in the city and a few trips to Wine Country...

Yes, It would be a thrill. Have shot races all around there.
Tioga Pass is on my list to ride.
Yosemite is one of my all time fav places to go.

I was not a mission to find a funnel small enough to put that Trannie Oil down that hose. No luck yet.
There is a ride this weekend to Whistler. 43 bikers so far going.

Bummer for Buell. They/he will rebound. I think you can not stop someone like that. Sorry for the workers....

Found a great Funnel for pouring oil. Not at any hardware store. Of course not. Safeway, man. Ya.
Transmission Oil changed. Very easy. Very Happy.
Thanks. Time to Ride ; -).

Last couple of things before my weekend ride.
I have the Primary down to a science.
Got the Whirl then backed off a few flats to rocks.
It Really did not take very much to go back to rocks sound. It is spaced between bolts a touch 'less' than the spacer. Now. While doing this, I got smoke coming from what looks like the 'catch can', but I do not know where really. It happened once before. No smell to it at all.
Just some smoke? Is it a worry?

And, I believe I had my Idle Mix Screw a little too loose.
Could that account for Poor gas mileage? I don't think my last tank was very good mileage.

I went back to the CVP manual that says, about 10-12 turns to bottom. I went to 11 1/2. It felt tight, but I think it is the spring that was holding it back.
This look right. Ist on In. 2nd out 2 3/4.

Thanks guys. Safe riding...

The PCV breather hose will smoke, thats normal.
The idle mixture screw should lightly bottom out, the spring will not (or shouldnt be) holding it back. Forcing the screw down to bottom will damage the screw seat and your mixture will be forever messed up.

FWIW: anytime you begin to use force with anything on a carb, its time to stop. They are delicate.

'PCV breather will smoke.'
Ok, I did not know that. Makes sense. Cool.

Ok. well as in the picture. It is out now. 2 1/2 turns. The carb thread are so new. No one has ever changed that screw. It is not dirty. That is for sure.
I was too gentle from the start. That is why I believe it was too loose. Hence my thinking that was the reason for bad gas miieage.

Dummy question. What exactly is this Idle'screw point' pushing up. And down, when you do the turns out?
It's a sensitive 'flap' Or ???

Here is the picture from CVP instruction page with the screw lightly seated. According to them.

Mark I went through a lot of what you're doing now. I did it a little differently than most (as usual). The PCV valve in the head was actually slightly melted from a "Run to the Wall" parade day. Boy that engine must have been hot!
I installed a Fram FV198 PCV valve (all metal), removing its small upper nipple completely and using the plug supplied to plug the hole. Then routed the PCV line to a "T" and a simple breather as shown. It lets the oil (there's been almost none) collect in the original factory piece of tube and the system no longer breaths into the carb.
No oil leaks even when run at high speeds for long times... only the occasional wisp of 'smoke' from the breather.

breather setup

And a good shot of the trans breather tube. Just pop hose off the nipple, replace with a piece of hose and small funnel, makes primary/trans oil changes a snap. Hope it helps.

Oops, I forgot the other "T" up high, it connects the trans breather into the line from the cylinder head. Set up so the top end (PCV) can't run it's oil into the trans. Just an inch or two is enough to keep any liquid oil from traveling uphill.

Thanks Eriko. Makes me feel better.

That is a good set up 'Tiltcylinder'. Thanks.
I have this set up going on now for the PCV from the Carb. See above April 13 th pic.
But I wonder now. Why that Trans/Primary PCV is so long and up by the seat. Could one not shorten it.
A lot. Leaving still attached to that bracket. In your 2nd pic. Not that it is in the way. Just wondering.

Riding has been good. It is not spitting any trans oil.
Happy. Get around to installing the Heim Stabilizer when it's raining.

I've now ordered one of those. TTO Tach meters.
http://buellridersonline.com/forum/showthread.php? t=5572
Because I put in one of Dan/Thumpe Idle Speed screws.
I measured the 'rotations' of the stock screw. And inserted the custom one the same. I want to know exactly what RPM I am at. I think I may be a little high. The rpm's that is : -)) $38.00 today is pretty reasonable to have that set up.

Ok, I've taken up enough of your guys time. Sorry.
Thanks for all the info.

I am installing the CVP Fuel Inlet in the Carb.
I have it pushed in this far.

Fuel

It will not go any further. Really.
I can turn it a bit. That got it in. And I don't want to force push it. It is really not going anywhere. It is tight.
Will that be enough? Or does it have to be in, flush?
Can I spray something on the push it in?

The CVP holes are a lot bigger than stock. Is that just more free flowing fuel. Or will it change anything?
