Cool - I'm going to get those AND the bar ends....bar ends for summer, Tuono style for winter with the Hippo Hands.

Oh - replaced the rear brake pads today - very straightforward procedure (easier than the front ones).

For us newbies, the key is having a torque wrench...20 ft. lbs (plus/minus 2) for the larger caliper bolt and 15-18 ft. lbs. for the smaller one. 11-15 ft. lbs. for the hanger pin (the recessed hex pin). the caliper bolts are metric, btw.

This weekend is a big weekend for my Blast. Going to install Dan (Thumpe) the man's system for air filter, catch can and superboot. Going to 46 slow jet and 175 main and installing the Yost kit (blue needle, 2nd clip from top) emulsion tube and needle system as well.

The Blast is going under the knife and won't look the same on the other side. Pictures and install report to follow.

Big day - got a lot done on the bike with the new system install.

Most of the day was spent cleaning the engine and other parts that I exposed while taking the motorcycle apart.

Big question, though - (superboot related) - what's the torque spec for the superboot bracket bolt? I figure it's not the worm clamps, so it probably can take a pretty firm snugging up on the locking bolt.

Another quick question - need the headlight specs for the Blast.

I want to buy an H4 light (55/60 watt) bulb, but what is the size and spec?

Cheers,
Jay

Erik,

Is this a plug and play "kit" (your link) as a complete lamp/bulb replacement?

Do I need to order anything else?

Before buying anything check out the HID kits that replace the H4 bulb. I put a 35W about 5000 brightness (daylight) and it rocked. Plus they are cheap.

Finished a total Thumpe stack/catch can/superboot install today. A ton of cleaning and detailing done as well after tearing the bike down to the frame.

Also installed the Yost carb kit.

Next up - the D&D exhaust, mirror upgrade, and headlight upgrade.

I'm going to wait for this Fall to do the Energy One clutch install.

Getting close to having this beast dialed in.

Can't wait for the weather to get better...

I do have some lingering problems, though - now worse after the install. Here is the problem thread on BRO:

Would love some help.

Need some quick help.

Torque values for intake manifold bolts? I searched the manual high and low with no luck

Also - Loctite or Teflon sealant?

Next - how difficult is it to replace throttle cables? One of mine is fraying close to the carb wheel.

EZ,

Thanks for the info over on BRO for the manifold bolts. They're done.

Now looking for PCV part number and sourcing as well as throttle cable sourcing and procedures.

It never ends, does it....

Cheers,
Jay

Very easy, as long as you can pull the gas tank!

I'll be more specific -

Which throttle cables (i.e. where to order, what to order - is there a difference in type, etc.)?

Process?

Thanks,
Jay

Part #s N0307.KA ("throttle control"-I'm assuming this is the pull cable).
and N0308.KA ("idle control"-I assume this is the return or push cable).

Thanks - I assume just run them from the throttle housing through the zip ties and call it good?

Yes. Simple. Just pay attention when assembling the throttle housing-the cable housing is "keyed" with a flat spot.

Would love some help (i.e. 1, 2, 3) on the process of replacing and then adjusting the throttle cables.

I figure first step is to lube them with some dry Teflon-type lube right from the start?

It couldn't hurt.
Remove gas tank.
After that it's just remove and replace. It's simple.

DO NOT remove the old cables until you have the new ones and MATCH THEM UP.

Do them one at a time. Follow the old stock routing, (unless bar and headlight changes necessitate a different route ).

Lube the throttle housing and pay careful attention to reassembly. The one cable housing is keyed with a flat spot.

I don't know what else to say. Pretty simple stuff.

So - also need advice on soaking clutch plates. I got the Energy One clutch pack, and I'd like to soak the plates before bringing them to the mechanic. Do I soak all of them? Or is that only for the steel ones?

cheers and thanks,
Jay

Throttle cables replaced - no issues.

Pay attention (for newbies) to the adjustment after replacing the cables. Rotate collars until you take up the slack in the cables...but do not "tighten" them. Make sure the snap-back to idle is working well - and then snug up the retaining nuts. This turned out to be an easier job than expected - the FIRST job on the Blast to be easier than expected, to be honest.

@ErikO,

Can you explain how to change the belt on the side of the road?

Specifically - how do you get the old belt off? Putting the belt on seems very easy once the guards are off.

Second - How can you tell the belt is on the right way? EZ has said the belt has pitch to match the sprocket - I just want to make sure I get it on there correctly!
