I'm helping a friend pick up an 08 tomorrow, is there a way to tell if the gas tank bracket is installed? I don't have the VIN yet otherwise I'd just run it though HDNet

Hi all. I'm new to riding & went with a 2002 Buell Blast because it seems like a great bike. But I tried to take it on the free way & as I was riding along steadily at 70mph something went & there seems to be different liquid splatters along the front wheel & the right side of the bike. I'm sitting on the side of the road waiting for my pick up, & was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where I should start looking? & for what?

I'm in Atkins Arkansas.

Wildcard, I have a 2001 also, and mine did the same thing when I bought it, used. It only had 2000 miles on it according to the odometer, but the pink said 3000. Anyway, if the ignition module hasn't been changed out since the bike was new, it more than likely is the culprit. The originals were bad. They changed vendors down the line and got better ones later. When it dies, pull the inspection cover, it is on the right side case by the foot peg/brake, and check to see if the led lights up when you try to start again. If it doesn't, the module is bad and you need to replace it. It will act up when it gets hot and restart when it cools down. Welcome to the world of Blasting! Don't get discouraged, it's an easy bike to work on and more fun to ride. The folks here will help you in every way imaginable. Forgot to mention, there are some other things to check out as well like the kickstand safety switch and clutch safety switch. These can be the cause as well.

Well, there is no slip ons made for the blast. The OEM muffler is welded to the header.

It sounds like you have the Buell Pro series muffler.

Check your petcock to see if its not clogged. Otherwise see how far the petcock opening protrudes into the tank. Then see if you can modify that.

I've run the tank down to very, very, near stated capacity. But I never thought to check if any was left in the tank.

The shop manual has a good diagnostic procedure to pinpoint the cause of your speedo failure.

I sold mine with my old Blast, but I'm sure someone can summarize for you.

Buy the manual. It's far and away the best investment in your bike that you'll ever make.

If it isn't leaking you are good to go!

The only way to check primary oil level is to remove the clutch inspection cover and visually look to see if the oil is up to the clutch.

The easy way is when you are refilling the primary/transmission is to fill through the vent tube. It takes one quart of 20W-50 full synthetic engine oil.

Which method? If you did it the "by ear" method it will stop clanking. Adjust per the manual (12 flats instead of 4 1/2) and then adjust by ear. If you cant get the clanking to go away, you have a problem.

...and this is so not the thread for any of this.
If you have a problem you cant figure out post here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/150578.html?1330394811
or under its related thread.

I purchased a 2001 Buell Blast about a month ago. It was in for rocker box gaskets in 2010, 2011 and three times in the last couple weeks. Are there any known problems sealing the rocker box on this bike? Shop doing work is reputable and has serviced our other Buells for years.}

No. Somebody is not doing the work correctly, using the wrong gaskets, parts are damaged or a bad PVC grommet seal is being misdiagnosed as a bad rocker cover gasket.

PS shouldn't they being asking themselves "what are we doing wrong"? 3 times In the past few weeks and it still leaks? It's not rocket science.

OK, I'm retarded.

After doing an entire engine swap on my blast which died of crank stripping with an engine that had bad tranny and oil pump, I gave up and bought and XB12. Now after 1 year and 3K in parts on the XB I'm back to getting the blast running.

Bought a used crank on ebay and a press and split cases and swapped cranks, resealed cases. I've got the original motor 85% back together but I need the updated torque specs for the crankshaft nut on the primary sprocket. I've searched google and here and all my saved data and cant find it for the life of me.

Anyone know the updated torque spec for the blast front primary sprocket?

When tightening the crank sprocket nut (primary side) you need to spray the threads down with brake clean and red locktite then torque it to...190-210 ft lbs

Well I had just bought this 03 Blast from a female school teach, and it only has 16k. on it...ALL stock and she told me that she just had the intake coupler replaced and carb. cleaned at the HD shop...
It wouldn`t idle worth a crap..Ect,ect..Popping through the carb...So Just for kicks I squirted some brake cleaner around the int. to pin point the leak....It was right around the int. manifold...I pulled it off and I could see where it was leaking...Fixed that and while I had the carb out I drilled out the a/f plug so I could readjust the screw(2.5).But man does it run a lot better now...
I bought this for my son on his Bday this Fri.and wanted to get it running the best as I can before he takes it to Windemere,fl. about 100 miles from me...I don`t want him to be having any problems with it..I ordered a K&N filter to stick in.And I need to put on a rear tire too...This site has been a BIG TIME HELP...Thank you to everyone that has posted all their tips and mods...They helped out a lot...
