Super Motard This maynot be an off road desert racer, but with some knobbies ? The Super Motard bikes were actually off road bikes converted back to asphalt....

Court,

That bike is cool, but to me it's a Sportster, nothing 'cept the tank says Buell to me.

I'm thinking of something more along the lines of what Fairwether posted, or the pic that Annony posted with more of a Blast twist (and more ground clearance).

the pic that court posted is alot like how i would setup one. remember one object is to get weight off the bike, and a big peice of that weight is that stock frame. also the frame more then likely would not hold up to being beat to hell on an off road race.

the swing arm wouldn't hold the 18" wire wheels you would be using in such a race. you stil need to swap out the front end for something that would handle the off road situation.

the stock footpegs would have to go to. they are to far forward and the pegs them selves aren't strong enough.

ok so far everything has to go except the engine...and compared to the other 500cc 4 strokers that would be out there it would be way underpowered so that would have to get some work done.

so many things...

http://www.stormwarningracing.com/motard.html

their swing arm still does'nt look long enough and the shock mounting would have to change need at least 8" for the good suspension pieces - prefer 12 to 14 - lol

These guys might have some usefull advice on the subject - since they are making something close to what your planning - ran accross it at my buddies site - lol - hi Ralph;0) - any way I do know that they have been at this project now for over a year but have just put that page up - figure they should be close to completion to start broadcasting the project - just a thought! Rebelgtp,

I have to agree that almost everything would have to be upgraded or replaced.
Swingarm, forks, rims all seem like easy stuff.
I'm thinking custom frame with the uniplanar mounting system,
low slung exhaust/engine guard,
forced air cooling,
3-4 quart oil capacity, (oil in swingarm)
4-6 gallon gas capacity,
11-12 inches of ground clearance,
57-60 inch wheelbase,
27-30 deg rake,
Use Honda XR or KTM wheels, forks and brakes.
Take a couple of pounds out of the flywheels.
low compression 600 engine, shoot for 40 rwhp.

For comparison, the Blast weighs 360 lbs stock, only has 5.31 inches ground clearance, and about 27 rwhp.

Go with KTM - better stuff - I've seen a few plans and pics of reworked Blast stock exhausts - but wouldn't the header from any other aftermarket exhaust and a bolt on can and hang a brush guard up front be more practical for when inevitable rock damage occurs and think of the fun you'd have experimenting with different inexpensive cans - lol - I think the Blast frame could be used with just alterations to the front neck - strengthening/adding material - and going with a custom swing - arm/shock mounting. Otherwise the Blast frame itself is a tank - lol - Got Thump?! Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Speaking of KTM, I've thought about adding a Duke to the collection. Nothing like climbing stairs downtown in the middle of the night as long as the police don't see me doing it.

I think putting it all in a C&J frame would be more reliable for the off road applications... but that mock up on the stormi page is delicious.

Big issue for some is trying to get up on one of such bikes.
I can not get on most dirt bike as the POS are too high for me. When the seat is as high as my belly button its nothing but JUNK to me.
See I learned how to do stupid on a YZ 80 back in late 70s early 80s, now it makes people cash.
We had one guy jump his YZ 80, do a hand stand on the bars , dang near land it (hit hill wrong) wipe the bike out, he actually broke his leg, only thought it was bruised, pushed bike home heated the bent bars up and straightened them, added a piece of flat metal to the kink and came back out and rode rest of the da.
That night he was in hospital in pain. We were doing all kinds of crazy crap on bikes.
Now stuff like that is televised.
Too bad designers couldnt have made more bikes like the XB9 city cross as that was only Buell I could sit on over the Blast.
But since I had already gotten the Blast,,,.
But now Ill wait, get my business going then buy an 883 Low and ride a lot.
