Yes.

It was bought new and cared for my Phil Wolfe. Phil is a bond lawyer and my partner in a Camaro race car.

It is being sold by Dr. Dave Chall.

Everybody in this transaction is top shelf. If you need to know anything about Buell parts, Doctor Chall is one of the best sources there is.

Of course . . if you were his wife . . the famous F.B.I. "psychic" . . .you'd have already known that.

: )

By the way . . . I'd bet that is about as pristine example of a 1989 as you will find.

Phil has a habit of buying lots of bikes and cars (he had the first Porsche 930 Turbo in the county and he took me on a jet to Boston once when he was buying a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.) and had folks who took great care of his bikes and cars.

Had the chance to visit the Topeka HD museum yesterday ...... Incredible.

It's become THE place in the USA for restoring ANYTHING with 2 wheels.

This RS1200 is a steal.

OK, I'm standing here next to it, looking at your old flattrack bike and I just spent better than an hour with Eli and Bruce. This bike is much cleaner than the description but, I've got a question:

The left side of the frame, above the primary has a funky portion of the frame cut away and rerouted for service clearance. That doesn't seem right based on all that Erik went through to have straight tubes. Can you elaborate on whether that's original or not?

If you are talking about one of the race bikes . . . and I think you are talking about the Rotax . . . it had nothing to do with Buell. In fact, it was the bike . . when Mike and I went to the Sacramento Mile . . that got me introduced to the first RR1000.

Is this the one?

But . . while you are on the topic . . . Buell became, within the design and engineering community more to than among owners . . quite well known for innovative shapes.

If you ever happen to get around an S1 Lightning . . .take a close look and we'll talk. There is some amazing engineering there. . . call it the "Anti-Miguel".

While you were there . . did you check out Jerry Lee Lewis' bike? If you live on planet Earth and want a motorcycle (they'll soon be doing a couple non-HD's for me) rebuilt . . these are the folks you call.

They didn't get to be the MOST AWARDED HD DEALER IN THE WORLD . .sitting on their ass.

{}

But hey . . . it's Badweb . . . so "that's my personal opinion . . what the do I know".

REQUIRED BADWEB QUALIFIER: I do not own a Rotax 600 flat tracker or Jerry Lee's HD so I am therefor unqualified to discuss either and am talking out my ass.

Yup...talkin about the Rotax. They retrieved the Westwind so I could look at it today. I'd post pics from the visit but, I can't do that with my phone.

I'll save you having to forum stalk me. In addition to the recently purchased 1991, I have an S1W, white S2 and an '01 S3. So, yes, I can look at an S1 frame any time I want. What am I looking for?

If this '89 were red or blue, I'd have done the paperwork today. It's just too much like my 91 to justify the purchase and that (and a bit of hoarder's guilt) are keeping me on the fence. Maybe Buell front calipers or the early non-Corbin seat would have pushed it over the top.

Your mention of the museum in this thread was the backup reason for traveling from KC to see it. You weren't kidding: incredible collection. I met Mike. My opinion is this bike belongs in that collection. It's as significant as quite a few of those other bikes.

I'm assuming that what you are referring to what is circled in red in this picture?

RS Frameshot CIRCLED

I can attest that it is definitely not original. Living vicariously here. A friend of mine in Wisconsin owns an '89 or '90 (I can never remember the year...but it's a 4-speed - with over 50,000 miles I might add...) RS and he bought another same year RS off eBay a couple of years back. My friends eBay RS was in pieces (and still is...), but it also had part of the frame cut out and welded back in place. From what my friend told me with that frame tube in it's original location the primary cover can't be removed and that in order to remove the primary cover on the 4-speed bikes the motor had to be dropped out of the frame. A previous owner of my friends eBay RS must've come across that the hard way and didn't want to invest the time to do it right and ended up cutting part of the frame to get the primary off and welded it back after being done in the primary. My friend has had his frame repaired so that you can't tell it was ever chopped, but the bike is still in pieces.

FWIW,

Yup, that's the offending spot. As I mentioned while I was there, great lengths were taken to maintain straight tubes. That joggle in the tube is worse (structurally) than just making a bolt- in rail.

My only guess was that maybe a few bikes were made that way as an attempt to solve the access issue and it was abandoned.

I didn't want to seem like one of those nit-picky buyers, pointing out every scratch but, that's fairly major if it's not original.
