just wanted to say hello, I bought your book a couple years ago and have read and reread it many many times. In 1996 I test rode a s1 at topeka HD during a demo promotion, Jim was the salesman, just saw the picture of you at topeka and thought of that day 15 years ago. Tom

That would be Jim of the famed Jim & Bonnie Robinson duo.

You are a lucky guy . . you and I enjoyed the benefit of working with one of the best motorcycle dealerships in the world . . in fact, they are, the most awarded Harley-Davidson dealership.

In those days I sponsored Mike's racing activities and it was when we were racing at the Sacramento Mile that I saw my first Buell.

I'd sent a "jacket photo" to the publisher and somehow there was a mix up. The photo they, incorrectly, pulled to use for the back jacket of the book was from that old 1996 Buell S1 Lightning ad that I appeared in.

I was a kid then . . . I have photos of Erik and I at the "First Annual Buell Owners Group:" meeting in Topeka . . which was in the late 80's . . . and we were REALLY kids then.

Thanks for your kind note, I'm headed to Topeka for a reunion next week . . ask which one and I'll strangle you.

: )

What a great place!

Court

P.S. - You are probably too young but you need to thank your lucky starts that they DID NOT elect me mayor . . . .

: )

thanks for taking the time to reply, have fun in Topeka and choose your route carefully, we have some roads closed due to flooding around these parts. I am "celebrating" my 25 year high school reunion this year, it dosen't seem possible!! Anyhow I always enjoy the pics you post and am looking forward to the 2nd book. Tom

Court,
I bought my first two Buells from Jim. A 97 that I later destroyed but he was happy to sell me a 99 that I still have. they are great people but haven't seen them in years.

Shhhhhhh . . .just for you guys. The rest of the world has no idea what they are missing.

A couple shots, from hundreds, taken when I was in town for Mom's 80th last September. I love the road that heads West out of town. We still keep the 800 acres out on the Shawnee/Wabaunsee Country line and I took by wife, a native ensconced New Yorker, out to visit last trip.

Kansas is like a taste of heaven on earth . . . .

I still get folks asking me what it was like to be "raised on a farm". I grew up in Westboro and had never seen a farm until I went to K-State. But once I saw one . . . if I were getting raised again . . I'd choose a farm over NYC or "in town".

I saw the Rocky Mountains for the first time in my life last week, (the furthest west I've been since Dodge City) and it was cool, but I sure missed eastern KS. It was good to come home. Nice photos, Court!

You won't go wrong at either of them. Grovers, at the current location (they were at 29th and Kansas Avenue but moved about 22 years ago) is about a chip shot from the center of Westboro so it's quick and easy. We still use Boss Hawgs when we're having folks over in NYC. They do a great job of packing stuff up in dry ice and over-nighting it . . great way to handle a BBQ jones!

Are you in Topeka racing or for work?

I may get in the week after next . . still up in the air. I'm hoping to drive but we'll see. Regardless . . you can bet BBQ will be on the agenda!

I am in California. My sister in law and her family live in Topeka. We go there every two to three years.

That is a beautiful 800 acres.
