Verizon took the T1 line down in the course of fiber optic upgrades to local wire lines. Nice eh?

Blake, so far I have not had any issues related to search since my last post above. Looks like that is sorted out.

Only issue I seem to still have is with the email system. Message replies and PM's sometimes are delayed over an hour, instead of up to 5 minutes maximum before the great crash.

Some email replies will come fast, but majority will come delayed, and often out of order. Say a thread gets 3 replies in the last hour, I tend to get the newest reply first, then later the older replies.

For example, the thread "2010 Uly down" ( http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?142838/492793 ), I got the latest reply which is:

"------------------------------------------------- -----------
Buell Motorcycle Forum: Big, Bad & Dirty (Buell XB12X Ulysses Adventure Board): 2010 Uly Down
-------------------------------------------------- ----------

Posted by Dcc46 on Wednesday, September 02, 2009 - 10:08 pm:

yep i think its just a faulty part not anything serious"

-------------------------------------------------- ----------

That came into my inbox at 10:15, so its not lagging, but I haven't gotten my reply before that or any of the 4 other posts in that thread.

Have dedicated board for members to post a favorite ride, road or highway. They could also include food stops, bars, sight seeing, camping etc.

Call it: BRAT (Buell Roads and Turns) Rides, Road, Etc.

...or something like that

I'm hoping that we finally have the search by date utility working 100% again.

Blake,

I am seeing to many posts from people who want to add pictures but either cant or cant get past the size restrictions of this website. There easy ways around this.

THIS IS 2009 too most have decent enough internet speed to support pictures and or larger pics.

here in this forum http://aurorah.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=test

Right in the post area there is a button to " host it" Any picture is then hosted on IMAGEshack.com and the poster has an option to pick a link in the post, a thumbnail, or whatever that is actually on the small to nothing side in the post. Clicking on the link or picture causes the dl of the pic.
I think this is a feature that is long overdue here.

Too tough to click the "upload attachment" button or type the \imagelink{image URL} code?

Have you tried to embed a YouTube video? \youtube{code} where code is the eleven characters following the "v" in the YouTube URL.

His gripe is with the limitations on size, not the method of posting.

I noticed a few months back you bumped it up to 100kb from like 60kb, which is nice, many times I grab a pic off the web and would need to manually resize it or compress it. Now I don't need to do it so much. : )

froggy is right. but i will try more the other options Blake.

Still I post this not mainly for myself. Like i said, I have seen too many people giving up on posting pics here, the size limit really needs to go up some more. Or find out a way to help others post pictures.

Having to down load a ton of pictures over and over to check on new posts to a thread-example Court's WVa. post- is a MAJOR PIA! Isn't there some way to be able to check most recent posts without wait?

Still no ideas how to avoid 4 and 5 minutes of re-down loading pictures seen before to check on added post to a thread?
Come on I thought you guys were computer/internet geniuses!

Or use the "New Messages" option in the search utility. Or click on the little "X" in your browser's navigation toolbar.

Blake, I just wanted to report that since "Black Thursday", it seems like the email system is back to normal, they are coming in on time, same with the PM's. Still no issues with any of my searches. : )

blake:

the last couple weeks have been another gleaming example of why WE NEED VBULLETIN.

here are my CURRENT annoyances with this software.. all of which would be a non-issue in vbulletin.

1. the latest influx of new buell owners has flogged the forums with questions that could have been easily answered by having an easier to use search function than what the current software provides. as a 1125 owner, i dont want to search OR post in the knowledge vault under the correct subforum, and HOPE that someone answers my question. i, personally dont go into it.. i just ask my question in the bike specific forum it belongs in.

there are atleast 5 repost threads in JUST the non-archived section of each forum. easily solved, by having a better search function.... and sticky threads to make it easy for people to see the obvious things we would like people to see.

there are numerous attempts by users making threads that try to catalog or index different common subject matters.. but the moment the thread is completed, people stop posting in it, it gets flushed down the archive toilet never to be seen again. those types of threads are supposed to be closed and then become stickies at the top... they IMMENSELY help reposting threads, and clogging up needless space on YOUR server!

2. once a thread is archived, it stays in the archived folders. NORMAL forum software's create pages and allow its users to view one page at a time. if someone posts on a old thread, it gets brought back up to the front page, as opposed to this software that keeps archived threads archived.... making it difficult for users to let other users that they have posted. this problem breeds new threads that would have otherwise been unnecessary.

3. there is no time zone adjustment function. i hate looking at the wrong post times and having to do the math in my head just because i am in pacific standard time, and not central or eastern whatever this forum is stuck in.

4. private messages. its easier to get back and forth between two members with an integrated private message system.. as opposed to this fourm that forwards to email... that some members dont check as often as they check in on the site. and even if they DO check their email, there is always the possibility that they an mistake the mail as a spam or other unwanted mail because of how the subject is worded. vbulletin makes you aware that you have a pending message from another member the next time you pull up to the site.

blake, ive said it before, and ill say it again. its TIME TO SACK UP and get with the program.

badweb outgrew this software long ago. just like harley was holding back buell, badweb's current software is holding back badweb.

vbulletin has its own support forum. it has users who are administrators and owners of countless other forums in the world. IM SURE they have resources for you to easily move and reformat the information over.

its not like is a money issue, either. the great part about vbulletin is it's revenue-generating abilities. it pays for itself in vendor and premium member subscriptions.

does this just not make sense to YOU or am i just missing something?

i bet i speak for more than just myself when i say that i would welcome a better interface, and would gladly do everything i could in order to help transition over.

I would love to be able to shop the bike classifieds according to state.

That's a great suggestion Nuerburgringer. We ask folks to post their location in their classifieds thread title, but unfortunately most don't. A form to mandate that will be on the to do list.

I'd be happy to chip in for vbulletin. This format is really difficult to navigate, read, etc.

Thanks for the offer. We've had vBulletin installed on the server for over a year now. There are other issues and time is required to handle them. Right now my free time is non-existent.

I use the "Messages since I last searched for new messages" search on "My favorite topics". Most days the search results come back in tree fashion with all topic nodes expanded. Lately, I notice the search results sometimes come back with all of the topic nodes collapsed. What a PITA! Is there some maximum message number that controls this behavior? And if so, can that maximum value be bumped up a tad? :-D

Yes, I can manually expand the nodes, but I am lazy.

Yes, I can use the "Messages posted within the last..." search, but I am lazy. Actually, I do use this search as a second resort. So na-na-na-na-naaaa-nah. ; ) But, still...
