South Bay Triumph plans to take one of the new EBR's to Bonneville this year. They plan to do some work on it, open it up to more CC's, etc. It was showing Alan Cathcart as the rider. He has ridden the Triumphs there the last several years.

This was discussed with South Bay Triumph at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering this weekend. A bright yellow EBR was there, along with ASBN, American Sport Bike Night. You could see the yellow bike from anywhere on the course.

People would come by and ask if we had the new EBR in our display. We would say, look over there. See that bright Yellow Bike. That is the new one! A lot of interest this year in Buell and EBR. People were coming up, wanting to buy used buells. the most comments like this we have ever had. A good event.

Good to hear EBR being campaigned at Bonneville. Are they going for a record on it?

Thanks Rex

Yeah c'mon. WSBK is something completely different and understandably open to a bit of criticism, but no need to carry it over here.

Will the 1190SX be the first Buell to compete at Bonneville in an unstreamlined class without removing part of the body work ie flyscreens?

If it is running in modified non streamlined then all fairings MUST be removed. I can pretty much assure you that the SX "headlight" is not going to be allowed thru tehc as that is streamlining. and the tail section will most likely need to be modified as well as the hump looks to be too tall. If it runs a fairing then that automatically puts in into partially streamlined class. Now if it runs in production then they do not need to remove the fairing. I don't know why you think it does not need to be removed to run non streamlined?

If it has the fairing it will run in the same class as a Hyabusa.

Dan I was thinking that the headlight nacelle might get pass as not being streamlined. Of course the powers that be are probably running on the principle that if it looks like it might be streamlines then it is. Guess it is a good thing I am getting corrected before I get to the salt instead of the Tech line.

A smart competitor will let you run with whatever you want till you break a record, then protest. If you aren't compliant you can lose, the tech inspectors do not check to see if you comply with the class you have entered. They check safety and sometimes will tell you their opinion of compliance. Competitors protests will be heard and tech won't care about the outcome.

Getting and keeping a record is more than just going faster. Knowing the rule book is every bit as important. It can and will be used against you.

If you're running in a production class and the fairing or windscreen was an OE part on the bike you're running - it won't be considered streamlined. This will be the 20th season (minus a rain-out or two) that we've had an S2 run in the Production Pushrod 1350 class - which is not considered a streamlined class. Modified and Altered classes are a different story...

So cool to see you still in the thick of things!

And I believe I am the fastest Buell ever in the 130 Club with a top speed breakout of 144mph on Jack VV's S1.

Court,
You're right, D. McCaw was there a few years before us.
We were the first to run an S2 and the first to run a Buell in a production class. No one (hardly) knew what it was. To prove it met the production class requirement of "minimum 500 built in one model year" I had to produce an official looking document from East Troy stating the production numbers for model year 1995. We also used the parts catalog drawings and the service manual photos to prove ( among other things) that although the bike had these beautiful brushed stainless headers, the flat black automotive sized muffler really was not ---- home-made.

Sorry for de-railing the post...

When told I'd broke out I was over the moon. Asked why, I knew 144mph was the fastest non salt racing Buell recorded at Bonneville. Likely still is. My moment of glory, lol.

Here's me celebrating the great news

Those were good times . . . . . I still laugh at Aaron taking his "pit bike" into the 170's or whatever it was.

That is the one they ended up breaking the old Carl's Speed Shop record that stood since time began. I think it was probably the most "post run etched" bike in history.

At one time . . over 50% of the "130 Club" was BUELLS.

The thread hasn't been derailed . . . those are GREAT memories. I still have shelves full of trophies and I recall the first day we broke the record for the number of records broken in a single day. They generally only allowed 2 and the bad weather looked to be coming in so we racked up 4 in a day.

To this day . . . if you tell someone you took an HD XR-1000 motor and made 8 consecutive runs with barely a trip back to the pits . . they'd laugh at you.
