Long time drag racer, going to use a wheelie bar this weekend, stock wheelbase bike. Anything I should know? I am so used to clutch control, is this going to just be a dump the clutch and go thing or what? I bought a used 1125R kit, anything special about hooking it up on my XB? Is there a right and wrong height?

Are you using a drag slick or something else?

Good point 46champ. Dean, if you use a bar with a street tire you will most likely end up disappointed. The sidewall in a street tire is too stiff.

A word on bars. SOME people call them sissy sticks, believing they are a crutch for those that can't ride. They couldn't be farther from the truth. Bars are an integral part of optimum chassis dynamics for a drag bike. They allow you to put the full power to the ground where it is need most, with maximum weight transfer.

At any rate, to properly adjust the bar, on a flat level concrete area, put a 2 x 4 (flat) under the front tire. With you sitting on the bike, the wheels for the bar should be just touching the ground.

Another way to check is, with someone on the bike, without the 2 x 4, you should be just barely be able to slide the toe of your shoe under the wheels.

With those base adjustments, it goes like this. If it just spins, raise the bars one turn at a time until it hooks up. If the bike pogos the bars are too high, lower them a turn at a time until it is stable and hooks up.

Too bad you are a left coaster, I would love to help with the set up. Just keep careful attention to detail, take lots of notes, and perhaps even more important, have someone video tape the launches. Video is extremely important to understanding the dynamics.

And put a slick on the bike. A Mickey Thompson 5" would be great, will work perfectly on the stock XB wheel, and provide all the traction you need. Start at 10 psi and adjust to taste.

Do you have a 2 step ignition system a bar bike works better with one and it is easier to launch. You will need to find a high enough RPM to launch with that you can just let the clutch lever fly. A bar bike can be driven off the line but it is not the best way. Fast1075 initial setup specs are exactly where all bar bikes start. If you get too much bite that the motor bogs even after lowering the bars start adding air. You can only go so low you still have to ride the bike, drag strips can be rough especially return roads and pits.

No mainly stock bike. I have a strut and slick also. Will be running the slick, wasn't sure about the strut. Also should I still lower my forks all the way and strap the forks?

With a slick and bars, use the strut. Strapping the front is not required, just use enough preload so it has little sag.

Have a good time!!!

I didnt like the wheelie bar, decided to run without it and couldnt do any better then a 1.9 60ft, with a 12.0 1/4 at 109mph,

Pretty much almost a full second off my times with my XB12 with XB9 pistons. which I did a best of 10.9 @ 119. Bike is stock with micron and tune.

I was hitting all the gears perfect, launch was decent without wheeling to much, just didnt have the power up top, sub 110mph is kinda lame. Passing through the traps at the top of 4th. Cant wait to get an 1125R

Hey is that Sac raceway> I ran there for years with Mike, Mikey, Philz, Fast Eddie and all the boys. I don't think you gave bars a good chance. I suggest you get a flat slick, strut vs shock and get the front end nice n low. You should be able to crank the launch RPMs up and let her rip. Not sure if you were spinning the tire or why your 60' times went up because they should have gone down. Good luck with whatever you decide and tell Mike Fields that Eric Jaquith will be up there this year to clean all their "Bracket racing" clocks. Thanks

What happened to the other bike? That was one of my favorites on here.
