Found out more about the Moto Guzzi in the goldfish fairing. The bike is the Mandelleo Meteor, it has two engine combos 1) a 973cc 2 valve that runs in APS 1000 PG and just set a record @ 170.6mph at Bonneville. 2) a 1072cc 2 valve engine that ran 176 something but no record. These new fairings are the way to go in APS...........

Still haven't cut the tail to a legal length, but the fairing has some mounts holding it in the final position. Obviously there is more work to do.

Looks great Jeff! Too bad AMA and SCTA cannot get together and make one set of rules for partial streamlimned.

Jeff, will you be running in APS-3000 PG ? If so whats the record you're going after? I think with your 200+ HP and that fairing you could go OVER 230 mph......

Good point, Dan,makes it a pain to build.

APS records at SCTA are mid 180's.
230 is stout, but definitely in the 2's, depending on track conditions.

Yes it takes a lot more that 250 hp to go over 230 mph at Bonneville. When Noonan ran 250 I heard he had over 600 hp.

The SCTA record for APS-PG 30000 is 186. There will be a couple other bikes running in that same class. Jay Allen has a new engine and fairing. Chris Rivas has run in the high 190's with his "bagger". So we may see a little head to head racing in this class depending on which events those guys go to. I plan on going to World of Speed again and may go to BUB for the first time.

I think 230 is a bit optimistic. I am not going to speculate, just bring lots of sprockets, gear it initially for a realistic speed and see what happens.

Jeff,
You bike's bodywork would not meet AMA Partial streamlined rules unless you hacked about half the tail section off.

I haven't actually read the AMA rules. Again, that isn't my main focus. If it isn't legal, then I wouldn't run the tail there.

Per AMA 2012 rulebook--APS class--streamlining shall not extend past the rear edge of the rear tire by more than 8". No streamlining behind the rear axle is permitted to be lower than the top rim of the rear wheel.
I know Greg designed his tail with sections to come out to be able to meet SCTA and AMA.

the body work is at the painter, Found another 8 hp on the dyno, spare parts are gathered....It looks like we are going to be ready for BUB and then a quick turn around to World of Speed a few days later.

I will put some updates here, but probably not until I get home. If you are interested in more real time updates, "like" my racing facebook page "Bailey's Speed Shop"

Thanks,
Jeff

Sweeeet! Looks a lot like our build except for the bottom. I would post a pic but I can never do it right so here is a link:

thanks Craig!!!

By my dyno numbers as long as the bike stays together we should be able to run 180 mph plus next week!!!

201 down, 189 return. The salt isn't great and we missed a day of racing due to water on the salt. The bike handles well when the tire hooks up, but conditions make that tough.

If the salt is good, we may see some big speeds out of several V-Twins tomorrow.

I've finally had a chance to catch my breath a bit and get back in a normal routine. I made to trips to Bonneville in 3 weeks including two straight through 24 hr drives on the return trip.

At WOS, the bike ran great and handled way better than BUB. We added about 60 lbs to it and removed the flat belly pan to keep air from getting trapped.

The results were:
APS-PF 3000 197 down/203 return for a 200.5 record
APS-PG 3000 207 down/180 return - no record
A-PG 3000 191 down/192 return - 191.9 record

I wasn't able to make a good return run in the gas class due to 10 mph side winds that blew me almost into the "Q" at the 2.25. That sucked. The 207 run was still on the rev limiter. It would go faster!!

But the 191.9 record in the open class is great. I put almost 12 mph on my own record. Holding on to this thing at 192 is not an easy thing to do.

I will post some video when I get the chance to edit it down.

Jeff I have read that Dustbin fairings were baned from racing because of bad handling in crosswinds. Do you think the Charlie Toy clone fairings are having the same problem and it is caused by the center of pressure being too far ahead of the center of gravity?

We were getting out of shape as well with our bike. We are going to close off most of the area behind the front wheel in hope it will keep the air from geting trapped as well. just like you were saying.

Bring this old thread back.

The bike is together (finally) and ready to head to the Motorcycle Speed Trials next week.

Lots of updates to the engine, chassis and body. The goal this year is 215.

Here are some pics on Facebook.
