One of them was mine. I ran in 6 different classes and got 6 records. Best speed was 167. My bike number is 9391. It's a X1 with a S&S 100" on gas, open although I ran in the PS class. I was hoping for 170+, but maybe next time.

Thanks. I have a fairing that should be pretty good. Just didn't have enough time to get it mounted before this meet. If everything goes well, I should be at Bonneville this fall. Don't worry I have a lot more sprockets!! I am hooked.

I like that bike, how much HP are you getting out of that 100" S&S engine? A full fairing like an XRTT would make a huge area to hide behind, you look rather tall. Good luck, go fast.........

It makes 140 at the rear wheel. It isn't real crazy. I am running .600 S&S cams and about 12.5:1. I built the engine for drag racing and it has evolved into and LSR machine.

I am too big (ie fat). Even behind the big XR fairing, my shoulders stick out. I have gone 173 on gas at Bonneville. It should go faster, probably a smaller rider would help.

Jeffb, 167 three times now that's consistent and fast too, especially with no streamlining!!!!! Did you see that double engine shovelhead run? Wondering how fast that thing went?

Jeffb: What type clutch are you using in your 100" engine, also is it a five or Baker six speed?......thanks, steve

The double shovel ran like crap. I don't remember what he was running, but it wasn't very fast.

It's taken some time to develop a clutch that seems to hold. I run Alto Kevlar plates, a Bandit billet pressure plate, heavy spring and Redline ATF in the primary. That set up has worked really well.

Thank's jeff, I appreciate the info. Does that 100" engine have raised decks? The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of a 107" in a tuber, ( 4.125 X 4.00 ) with XR style STD heads.......steve

The 100" uses a 7.113" rod length with a case deck of 5.875 (+.5" over stock). The problem with a 107 is that the 7.113" rod isn't long enough to maintain adequate piston skirt. The next rod length up is 7.440" and that would make the engine really tall.

Out of the box, a 100" is .290" taller than stock. a 107 with a 7.113 rod would be .350" taller and with a 7.440 rod would be .683" taller. The max engine height that fits in a stock frame is .450", a 4.313" stroke with a 7.113 rod.

Anything is possible though with enough determination. I am squeezing a 160 in a S2 frame and it is about 4.5" taller than stock.

That should be really interesting, I see 160"s at the AHDRA races all the time. Are you gonna use 4.60 bore or 4.80? What is the purpose of this bike? Some of the dragrace 160"s are making 280HP on gas and around 320HP with squeeze................

Jeff, one more thing are you gonna use fuel injection on the 160" or two giant carbs? I suppose you're starting with S&S Pro Stock cases? Is it gonna be 4.80 X 4.375? Pro Stock heads too?

You got it. 4.8 x 4.375 on S&S cases with cast prostock heads. The purpose is Bonneville. I plan on building a custom EFI intake set up. That is probably going to be the hardest part of the build. Right now I am assembling the crank and getting the cases ready for assembly.

Jeff you seem very knowledgble, or you wouldn't be taking on such a project. There might be some help from AHDRA racers, seems like most of the 160"-186" 45 degree engines in Pro Gas have huge dual throat Fuel Injection. Dale Raudenbush, Mike Lozano, Rick Maney, You may already know these guys..............

If you can hook up with someone on the inside in NHRA that could be good...those 160 S&S motors make some serious power...Arana destroyed everybody in Pro Stock at the Gator Nationals with one of those : )....I have no idea how much HP he was making, but the widely held belief is 300+....and the bike was running near 190 in the 1/4 mile...

The billet 60 degree 160 they use in the NHRA is completely different that the one I will be using. The billet motors use billet down draft heads, a raised cam chest, a gear driven primary, different transmission and a whole bunch of other stuff.

My 160 is a 45 degree with traditional XL cams, sand cast heads with conventional port orientation (but really big) and a standard XL primary and transmission.

This was the engine that S&S developed for AHDRA proStock and tried to qualify in the NHRA, but it never made enough HP.

The billet motors make 320+ and the cast are 250+ depending on how they are set up.

Jeff: Glad to see all the 45 degree gunslingers are not dead, Are you gonna run alcohol? gas? w/ nitrous or go all out and do a fuel engine. What class are you gonna run in 3000cc? Will you be running PSM 3000 or M 3000 or both? I hope you can beat the old Tramp III records, didn't it pull 235mph on a one way pass?

Jeff: What kind of transmission are you going to use, and I'm really curious about how much does it cost to put one of these together. You know you might have the first Harley to go over 200 naked on gas. I'm so envious.

I plan on running gas, but am keep alcohol in mind if I have temperature problems. The plan is APS-PG 3000 and A-PG 3000.

I won't be going after Tramp's records. They are in the 2000cc class I think. It went 237 one way back in the mid '80's.

I will probably be using Baker 6 out of my 100" bike.

I have several of people help out with the parts, but it is still too expensive. Honestly, I don't keep track because I don't want to know. I just limit myself to how much I spend each month and try to find better ways to do things.

Records I could find on the SCTA site are:

APS-F Dan kinsey H-D 1991 226.148
APS-G Dan kinsey H-D 1991 192.376

MPS-PF NRHS Buell 2004 195.988
MPS-PG S&S H-D 1996 171.962

Of interest is this:
MPS-F Dave Matson Vincent 1988 225.643
M-G Dave Matson Vincent 1988 210.357
They must not have designated "pushrod" classes way back in 1988 and 1991 that's 31 and 29 years ago !!!!!!!

3000cc A-PG Al Metty H/D 8/05 150.840
A-PF Death Wish H/D 8/04 140.196
3000cc APS-PG Death Wish H/D 8/04 120.392
APS-PF Death Wish H/D 8/04 142.875

I don't know what year they started the pushrod class. Those old 2000cc records are pretty amazing.

Go get em,Jeff. Be nice to see another Buell out there. Sure wish the FI stuff was easier on these bikes, having to custom make every damn thing is annoying. I am running the S&S 4X4 motor in mine, Baker trans, used a throttle body from HP Inc, BIG injectors.Had to fab a crank sensor.
You are sure right about not thinking about expenses, sure glad I paid for most of the big ticket stuff before I retired and the overtime went away.
Especially after seeing how little it took for my Aussie friends to go 220 on their 750!!!
Seems the bigger you go in the pushrod classes the softer the records are,I hope you put them into the stratosphere.

I thnink the 3000cc records are a little soft because the engines were long stroke small bore engines and the heads couldn't feed em. Jeff should solve that problem; 4.80 bore and 4.375 stroke, good over square design and the prostock heads should support that engine easily, the oval intake ports look about as big as a standard credit card. Similar engines in the AHDRA make between 250-280HP.
