Is the rear not as light because it's wider?

Is the front also heavier?

Well i came back from a long vacation in Gainsville Florida. I took my buell for a good run in the 1320.Guess what i did! I was running 11 sec. flat before . So now I'm in the mid 10's! All did was put on the race ECM! i got a PC3 powercommander first but all it did was boost my high end. Now I got the low end grunt,so therefore i'm pullin 1.3 60ft and a 502 reaction time and a 10.46 time at 136 mph! NO BARS HERE! Now I'm a happy camper till somethin else breaks.

Power commander has a port where you can customize the fuel map with a IBM laptop and it also comes with the program. I would strongly find someone with a dyno. I don't see a problem using serious engine combo's with a power commander. go 4 it !

You guys have made me want to drag race.
I have a 2000 S3 with few mods, only a hypercharger air box with K&N filter.
Soon to get a race ECM and maybe the D&D exhaust when I do the 10k maintenance next month.
They have a weekend test and tune at the strip near my house and also a big bike show and race on March 10, hope I can be ready.

Hey John Swift,
Took your invite to the page...No Aaron the stock wheels are 4lbs lighter as a pair compared to the PM Chicanes.Swifty, your buell runs pretty good..My best on my 95 S2 is 10.75 with average 1.52 60fts but I weigh 185 and the S2 weighs 470 which is heavier than your X1 and I run a Super B not EFI. Also, I am geared to run an Index of 11.50. Hey Art, the AHDRA drags will be in Phoenix at Firebird April 5,6,7th. If you can make it let me know I would be happy to share my pit area with you. Great time! Oh and Swifty, my other 95 S2 runs 10.25 but I have to gear it for the 10.50 Super Sport index. Check out www.ahdra.com and check the schedule...I will be at all the events...SEPJoe Perry www.acme-racing.com

Larry :

I use Crane HI4E single fire. It bolts on easy and is simple to set-up. It's a well made piece of kit, too, and I've never experienced any problems with it but what it brings to the party is debatable I think. Your choice depends a lot on how much coin you want to spend.

What would be great is if we had a dyno comparisson between the Buell Race Kit ignition, which I also experienced no problems with, and a single fire set-up. That would be interesting.

Well Larry, I'm in England so the price is pointless but I think it was under £200, and the coil was extra as are the Accell 8.8 wires that I use.

The Thunder Heart is programable ? Go enjoy.

Lesco:

The crane HI4E is pseudoprogrammable in that you can select from different curves provided using dip switches. The TH is programmable on a computer and will allow you to construct a curve with 500 rpm increment resolution. You can also "move" the pick up plate with your laptop + or - 8 degrees in 1 degree increments. The pickup palte itself acn only be rotated in 2.5 degree increments and you have to stop the motor to do it. Tuning on a dyno with a laptop is very cool.

What class are you going to run the X1 in? I run a S2 Thunderbolt in the SEP class and a Buell/Sportster hybrid in a custom chassie in the SS class. ACME Racing/Joe Perry will be at both races. Be sure and stop by my pit area and introduce yourself!!

1320 i will be running the X-1 in the sep class and the sporty in the andrews et class. i haven't run the X-1 much and have yet to test it with the cams and power commander, i am not even finished with putting it all together for that matter. so i am not to sure how its going to run or if my times will be competitive but i will give it a shot. i have run the sporty for the last 2 1/2 years in et class with just 1 win at denver last year for the showdown at sunset. look forward to seeing you out there.

Has anyone in the group ever used a set of wheelie bars. I am thinking of ordering a set just to see how hard I can launch without having to worry about sending myself ass over elbow

Don't know if any of you are interested in this but I dragged my 2000 S-3T last weekend. This is the first time I have ever dragged and my first launch while a real crowd pleaser scared the puddin outa me! I learned to stay up on the tank on my second run and did much better, same with the last.
Here is what I want to know. These are 1/8 mile drags and simple "run what ya brung" down home rural fun stuff with no pros and no "classes" although they try to match things up as fairly as possible. All the other bikes had a much better time of it keeping the front wheels on the ground and making better launces. I only did as good as I did because I was able to play catch up a little.
I am running a race kit module, Millenium Tech jugs with stock .030" over pistons, stock cams, some serious heads, a Borla exhaust system, K$N air filter and a custom mapped Powere Commander. The Dyno said I am making right at 90 rear wheel HP and 81.6 lbs of torque.
I need a little more grunt to play this catch up game and would like to know the best way there keeping in mind I would like to keep some sort of engine longevity and reliability.
By the way - at 56 years old I can say this was the most fun I've had with my pants on for a long time!!!
Thanks

I don't know what kind of "serious" heads you have, but they might benefit from a ported intake manifold, matched 10:5 CR pistons, some more aggressive cams, and possibly a programmable EFI augmentation module. Best bet though is to learn how to launch better? :)

There is no doubt in my feeble 56 year old mind that I need to learn to launch better! Having never really nailed this thing from a standing start I found out why they call Montana the big sky state. There was a lot of it to look at from where I sat for a moment and second gear was not much better. Running into the rev limiter didn't help either. I did much better on the second run and so - so on my third. I Have a Power commander. The heads are from Latus Motors in Spokane called "Hotheads". They pretty much market them locally but they are extensively modified and carefully flowed. I don't have the flow number but could get them.
I have to keep in mind that I'm not going to be doing this very often and that this is my favorite touring bike. I don't care much for what I refer to as my wife's Toad King (aka Road King).
I kinda thought cams would be part of the program and wonder what a good set would be?
PS: The intake manifold was given some attention but to what degree I am not sure.

Blake,
What is a "programmable EFI augmentation module" and what are its capabilities. Is this the new Firebolt programmable system that I heard may or may not be available in Oct, like HD has already released for the Big twins. Any information would be great.

Thanks,

hey Ron what were your times and mph in the 1/8th? I run my X-1 but I am not yet happy with the times its turnig, best so far was 12.23 stock heads pistons with SE high perf. cams race kit power commander woods 2.75 big twin filter and a wheelie bar, times are 1/4 mile I think mile 1/8 mile was in the 7 sec if I remember correctly.

Dawg,
As I recall I only turned about 8.2 seconds and 85.6 mph. But my launches were terrible. I have no wheelie bar and it was a first time ever effort at drag racing on my S-3T which is set up for long range riding. I ran an Iron Butt Saddle sore 1000 with it and did much better at that!
I have Penske shock on it and had it set for a soft ride and that did me no favors in the wheelie department I'm guessing. I plan to set the pre-load much stiffer in hope of keeping a little more weight on the front end. My best speed was just under 87 mph and I didn't get my time on that run.
As a matter of fun interest a fellow with a professionally set up and ridden Kawasaki dragster with air shifter, wheelie bars etc, etc. raced a guy on a Haybusa (spelling?). The wheelie bars made the difference for the dragster. But he only turned 94 mph and the guy on the Busa almost caught him even after stalling at the start. He turned in a trap speed of over 106. This is only an 1/8th mile.
Kinda makes a guy wonder why we go to all the trouble pouring big bucks into our little Buell's.
Ron
