I put marine USB ports in place of the cigarette lighter in my truck. I figure I’ll do the same to my 08 XT. I’m gonna do marine grade round ports that are a direct replacement in a car.

Any issues I should look out for? Or should it be a simple swap?

I can’t be the first to do this.

Not much to it, at least when you're dealing with the one in the dash.

The one under the seat isn't as easy to get to.

Thanks!!

I’ve done this swap a dozen times in cars and just wondered if there were any Uly specific quirks (like an irregular sized hole or something)

Luckily right now I have the rear subframe and pannier brackets off for paint so it’s gonna be an EASY swap. I figure now is the time. Lol

You might want to measure it first as the Uly one is fitted on a raised section of the 'dash'and there isn't a lot of real estate there.
I had a dual USB/voltage display I was fitting to my old car in the cigarette lighter hole and thought that would look OK on the Uly but there wasn't enough space to fit the rear section.
I haven't followed up on this as it was tried out of passing curiosity

Rays -- I have one coming in from Amazon tomorrow for the rear while i've got the tail section down for paint. I'm getting one with the voltage display for the front... I'll make it work, even if i've gotta add rubber washers to the front side.

I bought a 'cigarette lighter' twin USB adapter off Amazon (like this: https://www.amazon.com/LIHAN-Charger-Display-Volta ge-Compatible/dp/B01JA627KU/ref=pd_sbs_3/133-92442 07-7871329?).

Although it works great, and has already saved me a tow home, the LED is not easy to read in direct sunlight. In fact, I started with one that had a Red display, and had to get another with a Blue display. The Red was impossible to read outside.

I keep a couple of small pieces of electrical tape over the USB ports when I'm not using them. Hopefully to keep the gunk out.

soooo the one came in for the rear... and it's gonna take some dremel work to get it in. no biggie, just gonna be time consuming this morning. but it's working like a charm in testing.

definitely getting blue for the front AND I ordered the model with the attached rubber baby buggy bumper for to keep the dirt and shite out of the plugs when not in use.

so far so good on the rear... waiting for the front to get shipped. i won't be able to finish the job til next week though.

Sorry for the delayed post, but... Got front and rear swapped. Relatively easy job but not plug and play.

I had to grind the threads down a little on USB plugs. Also had to dremel the openings on the bike front and rear just barely to get it all to slide in, but after that it was a drop in.

if you go with amazon stuff, just grind the threads down, but don't make them smooth and you'll be fine. Dremel out the openings until everything slides in, then tighten down the nuts on the backside and you're ready to solder the wires and heat shrink. I recommend the mod 10/10. i have 2 USB slots under the seat and in the front instead of the cigarette lighter i have 2 usb slots and a battery voltage readout.

Xbullet: IIRC, the ECM will shut off the dash "accessory" power upon sensing a voltage drop, so your gauge may not work in low-volt situations.
Otherwise, a great idea.

'08 and later, the dash outlet will not operate with low battery voltage.

Got good news and bad news, fellas...

Good news is, you’re incorrect. My 08 still reads at low voltage. Perhaps because it’s LED and low draw?

Bad news is, I discovered that last night a few miles from home when my stator gave up at the end of a 400 mile round trip. Got down to 10V as I pulled into the garage though.

Back in the shop tomorrow to see if it’s Actually the stator or just the 77 connector.... or something else.

Glad to hear you're checking the stator first! I changed the VR only to blow it up because the stator was bad! That was expensive! I did replace the 77 connector as it came with the new VR.
