I have one of the famed crankshaft fails on my 2007 ULY. I have a chance to buy a 2006 model that appears to be solid. Though I think most of the chassis bits are interchangable does anyone here know if my electrics and sensors will allow me to use the 2007 to feed the 06' as it ages?

Yes, it’ll be fine. The only significant differences in the 06 and 07 are progressive rate springs and a slightly improved oil pump on the 07. If the oil pump from the 07 isn’t chewed up internally, it could easily be swapped onto the 06, but it’s a pretty minor upgrade.

Wasn't 07 the steering sweep improvement also? As well as some new colors, clutch cable hanger, and steering neck wire loom bracket?

Different throttle body on the 07, too. I'd swap that over.

Vern- increased steering lock and new colors came out on the 08’s. The improved clutch cable cable hanger didn’t come from the factory on mine, but the dealer installed it at the first service. Good point about the steering neck wire loom bracket.

Steve- good point on the throttle body. Seems like the 07 throttle body shafts are less prone to breakage.

Clutch cable hanger bracket was a mid year improvement starting on some 08s.

Not really. I had to go back and modify my shafts to fit 07's because late model 06's had the newer 07 shaft in them. Sold quite a few to 07 owners too. The tps sensor changed and the tps pin was roughly 90 degrees different. Otherwise the 4mm screws and using only half the shaft to hold the butterfly created the same weak spot at the screw hole.

I think the air box had the extra holes in it. Many of the 06 owners just cut holes in their boxes to mimic the 07. It allowed some of the cooler air to get to the intake.

So in other words, an 07 parts bike is a good thing!

I think all Ulys still on the road wind up being like the Cadillac in Johnny Cash's song. Mine is an 07, but includes parts from 06, 07, 08, 09, and 10.

You guys are awesome!!!! Thanks for all the info. I have decided to pick the bike up this weekend. Been a while since I had a project like this but it should mostly be fun. Unless my wife has to overnight me parts to the middle of nowhere but whatever. It just makes for better stories.
