Buy two belts for less money and hassle than a conversion...IIRC the swingarm has to be changed, or at the very least reinforced. Wouldn't want a snapped chain to poke a hole in the oil tank...

i sourced the parts for the conversion, but haven't bolted them on yet. it should happen this winter.

PBI sprockets can help you out. I'd try to keep the same ratio and pulley/sprocket diameter.
it can be had for about the same $ as a replacement belt as long as you don't blow a bunch of $ on a fancy tensioner.

nilla, thank you. this is for someone who posted on badweb of facebook, but doesn't know English. I told him that I would look into it for him.. I actually hopes to change the gear ratio. I didn't ask why.

I have chain drives on all my XB's. Wrote it up quite extensively some time ago. Check it out in the archives. Probably in the XB board with more detail than the Uly board as they were done years before I got a Uly.

For me the easiest way was to get a "Free Spirits" idler. Then toss the spring and drill a hole in the main arm where the spring sat. Through the hole goes a 5/16" 24 tpi stainless rod (threaded to the new heim joint of course) with a nut on either side of the main arm for adjusting and locking said adjustment. I also have some that a friend of mine made in his machine shop for a customer who had planned on marketing them. While they work in a totally different way, they are good too. None of these are as good as the movable axle swingarms that I have a couple of though. Now if I can get my hands on an adjustable Uly swingarm I'll be over the moon. Uly's have a different shock mount so the EBR & Hal's ones won't work.

I'll try to get some pictures up this week.

Alot of people don't understand how much better a movable axle is compared to the idler/adjuster, it's soooooo much better as the home made adjusters only work by deflecting the bottom run of the chain. BMW made a 450 dirt bike some years ago that had the swingarm pivot on the transmission output shaft. EFFIN' BRILLIANT !!! they weren't the first to do it but the most recent I'm aware of. Perfect chain tension through the complete range of suspension travel... Awesome. Ever see another bike with 19" (ok not that much, but it seems like it sometimes ) between the output shaft and the swingarm pivot ? It's nuts.

Right on.
I missed out on a free spirits that was recently in the classifieds. Ive got some aluminum flat bar so i think I’ll try to get a coupler nut and drill some holes

Going to try to post some pics now. The grimey one is my Uly and has a home made main mount piece that is just a piece of 1/2" aluminum drilled appropriately. The other is more of a stock free spirits.
