I forgot to note the bike's year; 2008. So far, I am not finding the inlet filter separate from a pump.

Those filters are white, like a medical patch. They look stupid dirty with minor exposure to gasoline in an aluminum environment. Unless it is damaged you can put it in a jar with fresh gas, slosh it around a bit, rinse and repeat a couple of times and it will probably be as good as a new one a week in.

Pack of 3 fuel screen for $15 here: http://www.highflowfuel.com/i-23899915-quantum-fue l-pump-strainer-only-buell-ulysses-xb12-xb12x-xb12 xt-2006-2010-qty-3.html

Not an employee, just a happy customer. Have been running their fuel pump for a couple thousand miles now with no problems.

Thanks for the link. I will check into it. The filters that I keep finding have been for pre-08 only.

That $80 for pump kit looks pretty fair to me. I was into mine a couple times before I realized there was a tiny pinhole in that pressurized line where it had been rubbing the inside of the tank.

Also, if you replace the regulator, be very careful of the retaining tabs. My pump was replaced under warranty first time, when I went into it after that one of those tabs was missing and the regulator had pushed out a bit and the o-ring was bulging out. That piece of plastic is (was?) available separately for a horrendous price.

The difference in filters among the years MAY be due to the intake size, IIRC. So if you were to get the whole kit they'd match up, I'm only assuming the pump in the kit interchanges across the years, I'd verify that. My opinion is if your going in anyway....

My fuel pump is working properly. My pressure loss was at the regulator due to broken retaining tabs. I purchased a new regulator holder and the retaining ring as well. As long as I am in there, I am also replacing all of the o-rings and the fuel filter. New pressure hoses turned out to be included with the regulator holder. The part that I had forgotten about was the inlet filter.

The bike is at about 77k miles.

The inlet strainers from Quantum Systems do not fit. If I do not find a source for an inlet strainer by the end of the week I am just going to use the old one.

Mark, I can't vouch for the fit but the short filter described here looks like it would do the job?http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/kit s.html
I did some internet searching years ago but ditched my original '09 pump after it tried to kill me several times and replaced it with the earlier type Walbro 521 as fitted to my '06 so didn't end up needing to source those filters with the different style of connection fitting.
There are some similar sized filters advertised here as well:http://www.racetronix.biz/items.asp?Cc=FILTER-01&i TpStatus=0&Tp=&Bc=

The original filter has the connection at right angles to all the ones I've seen advertised but I think you would still get it fitted?
