I prefer the stock pipe with a race ECM. My bike came with a Hawk on it. I got the ECM from IDS programmed for the Drummer and still was not happy with the Hawk. (Hawk pipe is in classifieds)

Mees, I'll consider putting the clamps back in hiding after I pull the muffler to pull the kickstand to install chin fairing brackets. The Idler pulley bracket will be loose at that time to mount the right side bracket.

Thanks Vern. I still have some splatter to clean on the front while I have it back off. I know it won't show, but, I'll know.

The magnaflow works fine if it's tuned.

Those are nice numbers at the top.n I wonder how the torque curve compares to stock.

That tune looks good from 4,500 to 6,500. That's where I like it when I'm feeling young. I believe it looses some torque down low compared to a stock can with an operational valve. It is hard to beat OEM down low. I'm trying to stay legal and safe when I have it down low. The neighbors frown on hot rodding in the hood. I won't miss it there. I try to treat residential areas with respect. The bigger issue I have down low is the OEM ECM tuned for EPA falling on its face when making a slow right turn into traffic.

Thanks. I have to give credit for the idea to the many XB owners who have done it before me.

Nicely done! Has anyone ever seen the Magnaflow muffler with the single outlet used? If so I would think it would be quieter with possibly more lower end power. But that may not matter if it's a straight through design. Just curious.

The single is probably straight through like this one.

Gotta go lower the price on the Hawk.

This PDF is for anyone that needs to see how to put the chin fairing brackets on after installing an after market pipe. Dean Adam's, KDfab's, and Jardine's brackets should work about the same. You may have to do some fitting for the Jardine brackets, their jig was off. So, without further delay;

Anyone out there use the Jardine? I hear very inconsistent reports on how the XB12 runs with it. Some even say it loses power nearly everywhere but the top end.
Anyone have any "seat-of-pants" dyno reports to offer?

Find a different pipe. Power loss is real, it's all over the rev band, and the pipe itself likes to fall apart.

And they sound like poo, in my opinion.

Between the vibrations of the v-twin and a fuel map that allows popping on decel, Jardines seem to have short lives on XBs.

Alex,
I would suggest one of the two below;

http://ecommerce.deanadamsdesigns.com/product_info .php?cPath=22&products_id=38

http://www.kdfab.com/drummerss.htm

If you have the stock can and it is working fine, I'd just repaint it every season or two and get a race ECM from IDS. Quiet is nice on a long trip.

I thought I saw a Supertrapp on a tuber. My guess is that the valved OEM can on the XB with it's chin fairing mounting points may have placed one too many hurdles in front of those that would have went with an adjustable diffuser disc system. Personally, I think using the disc system tuned for low end torque and replacing the end cap with an exhaust cut out to act like the valve in the stock can would have been pretty cool.

Supertrapps were very popular on tubers. Not only the external disc systems, but the internal disc as well. The Buell "performance" pipe - NOT the race pipe that required a different header, but the slip-on performance piece - was a rebadged IDS Supertrapp.

The Supertrapp IDS was an absolutely wonderful bit of kit on the tubers. Not too loud, great sound, durable, attractive, tunable. It was awesome.

SuperTrapp's on Buells go WAY back. The stock OE mufflers on RR1000's, RR1200's, RS's and RSS's were a SuperTrapps. The OE S2 header (the one with all the cut and welded sections) was manufactured by SuperTrapp.

It wasn't until yesterday when I clicked on one of Ourdee's links above that I realized that Jardine is manufactured by SuperTrapp.

Such a shame that such a storied name as SuperTrapp is affiliated with the crap that is associated with Jardine.

My $0.02,

Jardine Performance Products is manufactured by SuperTrapp Industries, Inc. in Cleveland, OH.

MADE IN THE USA. The Jardine needs a thicker case if aluminum or a switch to stainless. A very easy fix for the DIY person. Just rivets on. It was made to be light. They just made it too light for everyday street use on a V-twin. They are too loud for my taste.

side by side comparison?

08 XT stock muffler/ecm
07 X with Jardine and off road ecm

Sound at stops goes to the jardine
My XT pulls the X and I'm 30+lbs heavier

Anyone know what Special Ops does to the inside of his mufflers ??? I really like the idea of keeping the exhaust valve operational. I just need a better sound than stock and I little more performance would be great too!

Brother In Buells, How is this?

I used the Jardine chin brackets. Aghr, dirty rotten. Had to bend the right side bracket in three places to make it fit and got the bolts in and nuts on them. Also had to cut a corner off for clearance for pulley cover. Drilled out front hole to fit front bolt to engine.

Now, that left side bracket, cuss, cuss ,fit to bike like it was made for it. That is until I tried to get nuts onto the bolts behind the brackets where the new wider than a Jardine muffler now resides. The Scg leave little room to reach under the machine. I got one on by taping the nut to the bracket. The other one took a half hour and a cramping hand to finally get the nut into a position where the threads engaged. Next time the bracket for the left is off, I'll weld the slots then drill and tap them 1/4-20.

Ourdee the end result is looking perfect!

You made sure to tighten the end tip clamps good and tight after the first head cycle!?
It would be a bummer to loose one.

I'll tighten the tip clamps after the second heat cycle too. OCD header on V8 mentality.

Dean, Do your brackets have holes tapped 1/4-20?
