I have a problem with the speed/mileage reading, error code 37.

This started like an intermittent problem, from time to time the speedometer was flickering and CEL lighted up. After a while CEL went away, and things normalized. Tired of this, I removed and cleaned the VSS, but it didn't make much change, so I went ahead to replace it. But after replacing it doesn't work at all! CEL is now permanently lit, and no speed reading.

As of troubleshooting so far I've checked the 5V feed to the VSS, all OK. Ohmed all wires between the VSS connector and ECM connector, all OK, no shorts between or to ground. Ohmed wires between instrument cluster connector and ECM connector, all OK, no shorts between or to ground.

Both speed and tachometer sweeps properly when turning on ignition, everything looks fine. Checked ECM for cracks, nothing to be found. Wiggling the ECM connectors makes no difference in CEL condition, 37 stays on....

Any ideas? Pleeease don't tell me my ECM is junk? The bike has no other problems whatsoever?

Update: I swapped ECM with a 2008 Firebolt just to check, the problem remains with the Uly.

The good; at least it seems that the ECM is good.
The bad: I am still lost at where this problem may be located...

Since you disturbed the wiring replacing the VSS I'm guessing the problem is in the wiring. Most likely in the ground. Check the three ground wires that connect to the front of the goose neck. They tend to break inside the insulation. Many have put these three wires together on one single wire and then to a new eyelet. This had worked for many miles for me.

Got the little sucker. Turned out to be a bad contact in the instrument cluster multi connector.

In the aftermath I do realize it was me that made this into a permanent thing from an intermittent issue during the troubleshooting process, by inserting my Ohm meter into the female pins of the connector. These have some tiny blade springs inside, loose when intermittent, became looser after I had tampered with them. I tightened them up with a needle, problem solved. Took a few hours to get there, but... That feeling when you nail it!
