I have been using, but not in this color, helmet for a while now. It is better than the old version, which I have had two of, and still hold one that is in very good condition after near 10 years of use. Massive amounts of ventilation (even without moving) and more space around the ear and chin areas. It takes around three months to break in to your head shape but now I hardly notice that I have it on. I has the emergency removal cheek pads as well.  I added the Pro visor later and it works very well. On a naked bike I get no buffeting with the shade (either up or down) or any shaking/ rattling from it. With the shade up it acts as a dark peak. Down you get the shade but with the bottom and edges clear of direct sunlight so it is easy to see your dash and the edges of the road. This is very effective for "dawn and dusk" riding conditions. The best bit, with extra sun glasses if needed, is that you can "mix and match" to ANY light conditions at an instant. Amazing quality and clever design but not cheap. Saying that though most HIGH QUALITY helmets are around the same price. | ||

I used to really like Arai helmets. However, I had issues with the last two I had (mainly the vent mechanisms breaking), and despite getting pretty good at it over the years, I never liked the shield removal system. Certainly not major issues, but issues that a $650+ helmet should not have in my opinion. It came time for a new helmet a year ago, and I picked up two Arai's on display at the local Cycle Gear only to find that both of them had a vent that was broken. I went with a Shoei RF1200 this time around, which I am not entirely happy with. That is the unfortunate reality about helmets. You really don't know what you are buying until you've worn one for a few months and during at least one pretty long ride. Honestly, I'd probably get another Arai if I could do it over again and live with the corner cutting on the peripheral stuff just because they seem to fit my head better than any other helmet. I wore an Arai when I lived in England. It had great ventilation in the wet. I'm looking at the RF-1200 now. | ||

Yes VERY TRUE and a bit like changing to a new brand of tire. It has been said people have either a Shoei or a Arai head. A Shoei does not fit me as well as a Arai. | ||

No only for the Arai. I think it is there solution to the "built in visor" other brands use. Arai said they would not use this type of system as it compromised there helmets safety. Never used one myself though. | ||

"Is that "Pro Visor" an Arai part or are they available for other brands? " Pro Shade is what Arai calls it here. It is exclusive to their helmets as far as I know and is Arai's solution to the flip-down sun shade found in other helmets. It is pretty clever. |
