I have other interests; writing novels, martial arts, bass guitars, cellos and music in general, but the only forum I found where people are predominately intelligent is BadWeb so that's the one I participate in. Well, BadWeb and Porn. |

Rainman! Cello! (used to play cello... back in the day. Stuck with Viola... now after nearly 30 years without, it's mandolin/mandola) Frets can be sooooo confusing for fingers NOT used to them! (Message edited by slaughter on October 10, 2007) |

After decades of playing bass I decided to play cello about 8 years ago. I've done some simple Bach and Hindemith and rewrote old classic rock song guitar solos for cello. It's so expressive and yet only has four strings, like a good instrument should have! My wife bought me a mandolin and I'm trying to figure that out. It's all in the picking! |

Slaughter it means other then motorcycles period. Do you like anything else?? BadS1 - yep - in answer to your questions, I do like some other stuff. I have actually won awards for my photography above water and below. I'm a pilot (since 1968 first solo) - I'm a scuba diver, mixed gasses, rescue certifications, and a major materials geek at work and professionally... have been since getting outta school. I dropped my major in psycology/anthropology almost 30 years ago to become (after another 4 years) one of the Country's weirdest engineers. I still have most of a draft thesis on cannibalism... another topic, another time. My music skills suck - started piano in 3rd grade, viola in 4th. Took up violin in 5th grade (had to transpose treble clef to viola clef so it made violin easy) Cello in 8th grade... tried Bass but we never got along well. Most of my other interests aren't well represented by BBS's however. There are many websites. I have a passing interest in volcanoes that I picked up in my last trip to Rabaul, Papua New Guinea. (pic is of an open gate behind a dead hotel) Pics of the blacktip reef sharks were down about 60 feet about 30 miles East of Rabaul. Experimented with chemicals in processing... didn't work for me but an author liked the effect and the image appeared elsewhere as background:

http://www.aceonlineny.org/flash6.html At one point my friend and I were thinking of forming a motorcycle club who's primary goal would be to ride from amusement part to amusement park. We were rather surprised to discover there weren't a whole helluva lot of other motorcyclists who shared our interests. I've always found it amusing that a motorcyclist is willing to risk his life every day he throws his leg over a saddle, but won't get on a roller coaster because they're too scary... |

jaimec: I don't find that fact as much 'amusing' as I find it, simply, logical. On a motorcycle (or in a cockpit, for that matter) I actively control the vehicle, I'm at the mercy of myself, ultimately. On an amusement park ride, I'd be at the mercy of carnies..... passively allowing them to control my present and future. One who enjoys amusement park rides, at the hands of carnies, would be more likely to take a "catcher" role in prison relationship, while one who prefers to operate the vehicle would more likely prefer the pitcher's role. } |

Some good topics and web sites for sure. How about boats ? Anyone around here into fast boats. I got into boats when I was 15 and since then it has just snow balled. This is my latest Boat. 1978 Sleek Craft with a 235hp Evinrude. I built the engine about 6 years ago, Just to make sure I was getting all the HP I could. Also doubles as my ski boat. Best web site I found for fast boats. www.screamandfly.com S1Eric

Tramp: You have the ILLUSION you're in control. In actuality, you are at the mercy of all of the other idiot road users around you. On a roller coaster, you have the ILLUSION of danger when in reality you are in one of the mostly tightly controlled environments available. Yes, people get injured on roller coasters, but it is so rare that when it happens, EVERYBODY hears about it because it's newsworthy. On the other hand, unless it's someone famous, you NEVER hear about motorcycle accidents unless you dig through your paper actively looking for them. They happen so frequently no one bats an eye at them anymore (unless, of course, you happen to BE a motorcyclist, or are involved in the traffic, motorcycle or insurance industry). |

No, jaimec, when I'm operating my motorcycle, i'm in control, it's no illusion. When i twist the throttle, the motorspeed increases, and when I feather my brake lever, my motorcycle decelerates. There is no such user interface on an amusement park ride. Nice try, though, Einstein, and thanks for playing..... |

And, of course, you have absolute control over the weather, the road surface, and the minds of the drivers around you?? COOL! What part of Fantasyland do you ride?? |

You win- roller coaster and ferris wheels are much cooler than motorcycles. (you're getting such a wedgie at the HH III! ) (you could call your motorcycle-to-amusement-park club the "Ferris Buellers M/C, Long Island" See you at Nathan's ) (Message edited by tramp on October 11, 2007) |

"I didn't post the links. Blake would blow a gasket!" Your perception of reality is as inaccurate as ever. This is not surprising based upon your preferred net hangouts. Did you forget moveon.org and dd.com? What is even more sad is that it's obvious that your primary reason for participating here on BadWeB is to engage in yet more far-left-winger partisan bloviating. Get a life! |

Dana, I've participated on some doggie forums, law/legal advice forums, some computer/web-master forums and some engineering forums, but only when I have an applicable issue that I'm interested in resolving. |
