With your chin out of the way. Most likely you'll need a special compression tool to keep from killing yourself.

OK. Let's get to work....

I took springs off of my friend's old honda shock.
I used two ratcheting tiedowns to compress the spring off of the stop.
after that, the collar came right off with no issues.

We were lowering his bike BTW.

Most auto hardware places will rent their strut spring compressor for a little of nothing. They normally let it out for free when a person buys struts from them. Real easy and safe to use. Maybe it will work for the rear ULY shock. Take your rear shock to one of those places and see if what they have will work.
