I tried a poker run once - and headed home when I saw people drinking heavily at 10am. Sure, the checkpoint was at a bar, but I naively thought they would just use the parking lot. Never again. |

"Ride to Drink - Drink to Ride" Seems to be the mantra for the typical 'Harley guy' that has bought into the whole lifestyle thing. I have been riding H-D's since '71, and I have seen this type of thing since then - that's why I tend to ride alone or with just a select few other riders (& I mean 'riders' not 'bikers') AL |

Believe me, drinking and riding isn't restricted to just the idiots that ride Harleys. |

did a military troops run, it was utter chaos, a slinky moving 30-60 mph, at 9 am I would think most were sober, but I know not all were. That was my last group ride with strangers. Now if I cant call you out by name, we probably arent riding together. (it keeps the group small and honest) |

poker runs, along with loud pipes and stunting in traffic will be the things that the anti-motorcycle crowd use to take away our right to ride. drinking and driving is so non-PC that Sammy Hagar can't even perform "Cruisin' and boozin'" in concert. There is a relatively small contingent of very irresponsible riders that are going to ruin it for the rest of us. I'm not perfect, never claimed I was. I do ride aggressively, but only when the situation warrants. What I WON'T do is ride impaired. I have chronic nerve pain and there are many days when I feel too distracted by pain to drive or ride. I won't answer my cell phone behind the wheel without pulling over first either. I have to live with the results of a distracted driver's actions every day of my life. The group rides at Homecoming is the only time I ride in a group larger than 5 people in a given year. Most of the time I fly solo. In groups I always ride VERY conservatively and am constantly monitoring what is happening behind me. (Message edited by diablobrian on September 16, 2007) |
