Anyone opened up the left side of their 06 Uly Airbox. I was thinking about cutting two or three 11/2" holes on the left side since it is completely enclosed. Has anyone done this and if so was it effective? Figured more air cannot be a bad thing. Thanks for taking the time kids, Ken |

More air could be bad if the ecm does not have the fuel tables to support it!!! That's the purpose for 07 re-flash. More air, leaner mixture, hotter motor, burnt valves or worse yet ENGINE.

Hi mate, there is a lot of discussion on here about it, particularly on the older XB's which had 'the snorkle'. Here's my 'blog' about doing it to my 06 Uly: http://uly.jl.sg/2007/08/06-open-air-box-and-breat her-mod.html I decided to go the "open airbox" path instead of cutting holes (AKA "spider web airbox"). Just because it looks cleaner and more purposeful, and I wanted to re-route the breather hoses anyway, so it made sense to use the bolts which secure the lid to also seal the holes left by the breather hoses. I'm sure the result(s) would still be essentially the same. I changed a few things at the same time (K&N filter, re-route breather hoses, and opened airbox), and can honestly say I had a real-world performance improvement. 2nd gear roll-on wheelies now possible. The ECM calibrates itself to the extra air automatically. You just need to sit at a 'cruise' (~3500-4000rpm, where the annoying 'stumble' is in the rev range) for a few minutes to let it reset. Hope that helps. James |

I opened mine up and got the 07' reflash. Do a search because there was quite the discussion on modifying the 06' or just buying the 07 airbox cover. I went the cheap way. No problems. |

I opened mine with seven 1 1/4" holes and taped the right side holes, and I did not do a reflash. It seems that if everything else is stock(exhaust, ECM), the '07 reflash wasn't necessarily necessary. If you do smaller changes the bike can "learn" and adjust for it. |

I cut my 06 box and did not do a "re-flash" bike ran great...I also bought an 07 box, it looks better that my "creative" masterpiece. NO reflash necessary...my bike was smart enough to figure it out, it has the secret "Einstein" chip. |

I've heard that one reason Buell changed the airbox is because the holes in the 06 were in a bad spot. Supposedly holes in that spot drags in hot air off the rear cylinder. |

I have the K&N already and waiting for the 07 airbox to arrive. Looking forward to the mod. I hope it will help with the low speed rough running and give it more POWER!! I like POWER!! |

Thank you very much everyone. That is exactly the info I was looking for. I did a search and there had to be a thousand posts about the airbox but I wanted feed back from Uly owners specifically. We seem to have some unique issues with our scoots. I will get the holesaw out and get a little creative. |

All you will achieve is more noise. 06s through to 08 all have the same torque and HP. Now emmissions may be a little different, but performance wise you will gain nothing. It may sound faster because of the noise increase. |

I cut my 06 air box open after seeing the 07 mods at a demo day, 6 months after purchase. Seat of the pants dyno says it pulls better. It is more noise, but mainly when you "get on it". Based on the 07 model I viewed, I followed the internal seams for strength, cut on both sides and top. Your bike, make your own choices. They changed the 07 model so that it could breathe better. |

I never closed of the heat side original holes and really think that is unnecessary. Hole saw is good but I bored my holes with a cheap spade bit. http://www.ehow.com/how_12231_spade-bit.html |

There is DEFINITELY a performance benefit... no question about that. Whether you or the bike notice is another question. But the engine _must_ be happier. Re engine figures from '06 to '08 models - How do they measure the engine performance to get those figures? They're at the crank? So probably not measured with the engine in a bike... maybe not even measured at all, just theoretical. |

She should breath a little better now. Finished up with some clean up with the dremmel, slap her back together and fired her up.........Very WONKY...love the sound. Now just have to go for a cruise to let the ECM sort itself out. Did not do the top yet because I am still running the stock filter. Ordered a K&N today so when the oiled filter gets here I will probably do some more "damage". |

Heck why even put it on? Just make a bracket to hold the other bits and be done with it. I think that large section on top needs some holes also!!!! Just kidding!!!! |

WTF, Ken? When you roll on the throttle, that thing is going to ingest your belt buckle! When I get up to VA, I've got to stop by and listen to that thing! |

My 06 Uly did very well with the 07 re-flash and the stock 06 air box. I did install an 07 air box but I did not like the increased intake noise. Regardless the AFV will take care of the mixture issues. It will always run home to 14.7 to 1. |

I must apologize to all those that witnessed me riding today. The WONK, WONK has got me completely addicted. Noticeable enough increase in pep to warrant the swiss cheese treatment. Fan also ran for a shorter time before going to slow speed and shutting off....although I do not know why? |
