First off, great site and info source. I've been lurking for a while and got stung by the Buell during a test ride to get the messenger bag. That was about two months ago and I still have the fever. (I rode an XB12s, the Uly's battery was dead.) Anyway a new leftover 06 Ulysses looks mighty tempting. I interested in a source where I can learn more about this Sportster motor and what changes Mr. Buell has made to it. Also the ignition changes to the 08 models has me curious since I've read that the dealer can only reset the TPS(?) on the earlier models. I'm aware of the year changes between 06 and 08 expect for the above and see the oil pump as the most significant change in 08, IMO, but, I doubt I could justify the extra expense when compared to a leftover 06 price. Anyway, thanks. Keep up the good work. |

Well, first off it's not a sportster motor. It looks similar, but the cases, heads and internals are different. There is more that is different between the two than the same, other than architecture, outward appearance, bore and stroke figures, and some internal bits and pieces. The Buell puts down a lot more HP even stock...and mods are easy. There is software available that allows home TPS resets known as VDST, and Direct Link (a map altering software also does this. The knowledge vault and search features on BadWeB are probably the best resource in the world for researching Buells, other than Picking the brains of Court, Dave Gess, Henry Duga, or Erik himself. There is a wealth of information is you can refine your search enough. |

I have an 06 Ulysses and it's a keeper!!! 13,000 trouble-free miles and runs as good as the day I purchased it! Maybe even a little better since it's now broke in. Just be careful on it, the front end likes to wheelie! But that's most likely the rider's fault since he likes to let the motor roar down the open roads! |

Oh yeah... The 08 should be a great machine, but you should have more leverage on buying the 06 with the new ones coming out. |

Well I just picked up 06 demo with the hard bags, top box and full 2 year warranty!! I love it. And I saved a huge pile of dough that my wife is very happy about. |

I somehow overlooked the "knowledge vault", too eager to post I guess and browsing "big, bad and dirty". need to clam down some and do the research. I'd also be interested is what kind of deals are being made on the 06's. |

In light of the known improvements of the '08 over the '06. For me, if the low speed surging and loud fan are fixed for '08, I'd wait. |

Also the ignition changes to the 08 models has me curious since I've read that the dealer can only reset the TPS(?) on the earlier models. I'm not sure if you meant exactly what you wrote, but assuming you did... Technicall yes, dealers can only do TPS resets on the 06 and 07 bikes, but this is because the 08s do not need TPS resets. It is a feature. If you meant that only dealers can do TPS resets, that is not correct. You can buy the software to do it yourself. I think it is between $100 and $200, depending on the other capabilities you want the program to have. |
