no, no, no this sucker's a buell but it requires the harley bits and pieces to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of power to operate the flux-capacitor which makes time travel possible!!!!!!!!!! |

Why does this sound like the rant from ANIMAL FARM... Buell motorcompany good, all others BAD... But a Buell is a Harley maybe, so maybe Harley good... And in the end, we all should be riding and have one of each in the garage. |

Well, initially, the only thing about a Buell that was Harley was the engine. Most of the other parts were manufactured by Erik Buell for his racing bikes. But after a while, Harley took an interest and bought half of the company from him. Later on, Harley mostly bought him out. In the meantime, Buell is building motorcycles that are so original, that there's patents on most everything they are doing. There's virtually no motorcycle like it anywhere. Sure HD owns the company, but the motorcycle itself is totally original, even down to the internals of the engine. There are purists who won't look at a V-Rod because it is water cooled, and a departure from everything Harley normally does. But a V-Rod is a work of art, and an incredible motorcycle. It is definitely HD, and there are traces of lineage all over it. But it is different, and some people will never accept it as being a Harley, even though it definitely is. By the same token, Buell riders are fiercely loyal to Buell. Even though Harley owns the company, Buell is a distinct motorcycle, "Different in every sense.", and Buell riders would have it no other way. Erik Buell himself states that the reason that he uses the motor that is in the bike, the one claim to direct lineage to HD, is that it is simply the better motor for the street. It has torque, power in all the right places, and a sound and feel like no other. Given the chance to break in properly, the stock pipe does a wonderful job of making music during acceleration like nothing I have ever heard. The bike is an instinctive handler. Rides nothing like anything in the HD line, so there's really no comparison there. But the same approach to quality and attention to detail is. And that is one of the things that make BOTH Harleys and Buells great motorcycles, even if they are only vaguely similar. One thing is certain. Riding in formation, it becomes easy to forget which bike you are on, if you have both. The shift points and power delivery are smooth and similar. And to be fair, the 96 CU powerplant and cruise drive transmission of the new 07 Harleys have to be ridden to be believed. The company has come a long way with both lines. So, is a Buell a Harley? Well, yes and no. The bike is different, as is the approach, but the heart and soul of 100 years of motorcycling beats in it's center, and the commitment to quality is the same as with any Harley-Davidson product. For what it's worth, it's the best of both worlds. Stretch |

I was out the other night with a friend who had a heavily modified honda VTX while stopped at a 7-11 all the random people that would come by would ask him; "is that a harley" "nope, and honda, but that is" pointing to the Buell people would give a very confused look and leave us alone... most of them anyway. (finally i asked him to stop calling it a harley cause to me, its a buell) |

Yesterday I made a Smore in the microwave. The teenagers in the youth group saw me eating a smore and wanted to know how I roasted the marshmallow w/o a fire. When told that I used the "nuker", they denied it to be a smore. Because it hadnt been cooked over a campfire. Applying this point of view to the arguement... Its a Buell. |
