Have an 06 9sx 4400 miles. With the suspension set to the factory norm for my weight, I have a cupping pattern on the outside edges of my Sync's. I dont feel anything while riding. Bike handles great. Anyone? |

I cannot ever remember seeing cupping on the rear tire. Curring on the front is fairly common and occurs for several reasons, http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/infocenter_faq.asp ?id=9 http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/tirewear/ Hard braking (do you use the rear brake heavily?) improper inflation, heavy loading, and even tire design (although the scorpion sync has a good reputation) affect the tire's tendency to "cup". Start by checking inflation and paying attention to whether your suspension is properly set-up. If you continue to have the problem try a different model of tire. |

Make sure it is not installed backwards. Look for the arrow on the tire to go in the direction of forward rotation. |

check that you dont have any roughness or slop in the swingarm and wheel bearings. Keep inflation pressure in the 36-38 PSI range. If the tires are lasting too long, either ride harder or run them on gravel roads more. that will wear them out faster, and you wont notice any cupping. |

I just inspected my tire (just got back from a 250 mile ride) and I dont have any cupping, although I have a slight feathering on the outside tread pattern. but nothing to worry about. 06 XB9SX 4200 miles and I am 6'4" 170lbs How much cupping doing have like easily spotted from a distance or you have to really look at it to be able to see it. Also what type of riding you normally do? and whats you weight? how much milage with a passenger? |

Thanks much for all the help! I weigh 224 and keep the tire pressure to fac recommended numbers. I think that "feathering" is probably a more accurate term for what is happening. I do mostly twisty sport riding at Tortilla Flat in AZ. Engine braking and lots of rear brake are used. No mileage with passengers. I would not know anything was wrong if I didnt look at the tire. ? |
