Alton Brown is doing another season of his show. I hope he comes to the great NW! So the premise of the show (if you havent seen it) is Alton Brown and crew on motorcycles (6 BMW's last year) and a road trip in a vague direction (ie west) Rules. No freeways, highways, or toll ways. All roads must be smaller state arterials, the smaller the better {dirt even better} Quest: To find the most authentic unfranchised local food spots, no corporate logos, only mom & pops. No time limit, no schedule. I think we all have a good start on our own version. So for my submissions Camp Union Lumberjack Cafe (Holly near Silverdale) Happy Valley (Chimacum) Granny's (Lake Cresent) and my ultimate favorite Clayton Burger (clayton E washington) A double patty bacon burger with egg and a split polish dog with lettuce and cheese . Add a 1/2 lb of fries.... I hear that there is a hell of a chili in Anatone, will ride and report this summer. Anybody else got some favorites ? |

Jaimec - +1 on the Meanie Burger. That has got to be one of the best burgers ever! I think you forgot a layer of cheese in there somewhere. Oh, and a layer of bacon! Their gravy fries are pretty good too. You did forget to mention the size - besides all the layers of deliciousness, it's actually a pretty good width. My wife can't even finish half. They also have a soy shake machine with flavorings...if you've never had one, try it for fun, they're definitely different! I look forward to lunch at that place every September I'm there. |

I forgot the bacon and cheese layer! It's been too long for me! Gotta get up there again and run the Hawk's Nest, too! |

The Hitching Post Cafe in New Lebanon, NY has some damn good burgers, as well. Plus, I have a great route there, and an equally good route back. Then there's Dot's in Wilmington, VT. They've won the Vermont State Chili competition every year since the Stone Age. And if you're ever in Syracuse, NY, eat at the Dinosaur BBQ. It's owned and run by Bikers who KNOW how to cook meat. |

Clamp's roadside burger stand in New Milford, CT, off route 202 - get a cheeseburger with fried onions, ketchup, salt & pepper, and you'll never forget it. People drive from miles around to sit in a plastic chair, using an old telephone spool as a table, eating off a paper plate. |

Coleman's Fish Market in Wheeling, WV. I believe Gourmet magazine rated their fried fish sandwich the best fish sandwich for under 3 bucks. Prices have gone up a little since then. http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefI D=496 |

Hmmmmmm... Dinosaur..... one of those places I park the Cyclone without any fear of theft. ( the Rochester location ) For a neat experience, try Maple Tree Inn in Angelica NY. Only open from Feb 13 to April 15, it's an all you can eat pancake joint, where they make real Maple syrup. http://www.cartwrightsmapletreeinn.com/index.html Now if the snow will just go away, I'm there Sunday.....on Buttercup ( My M2 ) or if it doesn't, minivan. For year round eats just off the NYS Thruway, Charlie Riedel's Fast Food Family Restrant, 7457 State Route 96 Victor, NY 14564.... just off exit 45, has an evil thing they call a grilled cheeseburger. Grilled cheese with a burger, or cheepoid pannini? I don't know, but it's good for an early appointment with your cardiologist. |

I'd raved about the Dinosaur in a different thread, and was soundly ridiculed for thinking you could get good BBQ in New York. How little they know! I've been to all three: Syracuse, Rochester and Manhattan. I think I like the Syracuse location the best, though Manhattan (not Brooklyn) is the most convenient (but the parking SUCKS). We have a place in Chattanooga that's been here forever called Bea's. You sit at a big round table(after standing in line to get in) with enough strangers to fill the table up. There's a lazy susan filled with plain old southern cooking, nothing fancy, all good, all you can eat. Waitress running frantically about keeping everything hot and fresh. My helper and I were replacing some lines under an old house close to there one day, so we went there for lunch. Got our money's worth, went back to the job and had to quit, we couldn't get under there anymore. I don't know Mr. Brown, but I want his job. |

Phat_j: The original Alice's Restaurant (made famous by Arlo Guthrie) was in Massachusetts, but it's not there anymore. When most bikers talk about Alice's Restaurant, they are referring to the Biker Hangout in Northern California (some guy named Jay Leno hangs out there). That's why I made the distinction for the Alice's Restaurant in Cape Breton. |

Speaking of Cape Breton, I can't POSSIBLY leave THIS place out. Their sign boasts the best hamburgers in the WORLD and the best fried chicken on the island (that's me with my BMW K1200LT taken in 2004):
PS: Their fried chicken is REALLY good, and yes... they DO sell T-Shirts! (Message edited by jaimec on April 05, 2007) (Message edited by jaimec on April 05, 2007) |

I've got you all covered with http://www.tomandjoes.com Their breakfast menu includes items like: The Special Special (my personal fav.), The Big One and The Mess. Their slogan is "You can't pay for entertainment this good" They have a "top ten" reasons to eat at Tom and Joe's t-shirt. One of the reasons is top rated food with "R" rated service! You'll have to ask XB9er what Kim, a waitress there, does with his drinking straw! I can't post it here being a family friendly forum and all.... Maybe if you come to Altoona, PA for the Res. Ride: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 261263.html?1175573448we could stop in for lunch. |
