Yup; the Privateer Buell finished a bit better than the Factory Hondas. Although, to be honest, I was hoping that Miguel was going to pull off win number six. Congratulations guys on a great effort. I wish I could have been there. But my wife and I were glued to the TV and every time we heard the Buell (it does have a distinctive exhaust sound), we'd comment on it. It sucked watching the crash, but it was really cool to see Walt get back into the race, and finish. |

Congrats, Walt! Finishing the 200 is an excellent place to start developing (making friends with) your race bike! It is important to all Buell fans that you keep carrying the flag, you give it more class!! |

All smiles tonite as we (the crew and Walt, our sponsor(Bison Racing and dealers who helped Walt)celebrated a interesting day at Daytona, our finish! It's been a interesting and fun week with the crew as we prepared for the qualifying and ultimately the 200. And it was early good-by's as we all headed out of Daytona International speedway thinking of what we accomplished today. Walt's a great guy, and we all enjoyed our racing experience with him. Great job Walt!! |

Certainly Walt & Team deserve recognition of some kind to be the first Buell to finish the Daytona 200! (Especially after falling off...joining the likes of Scott Russell and Miguel DuHamel) How about a medal or plaque, Erik? |

I'd like to see Walt post up a list of his sponsors. Much as we like to talk about all this and share all the warm fuzzy feelings, what matters in the end is that his sponsors get exposure and they get BUSINESS that can be tied to the racing. We support the RACERS by supporting the SPONSORS. |

From Walt's website: Bison Racing Blue Springs H-D bluespringsharleydavidson.com Lockhart Phillips USA lockhartphillipsusa.com Sidi Boots motonation.com KBC kbchelmet.com EBC ebcbrakes.com Buell Motorcycles buell.com Sprocket Specialists sprocketspecialists.com Vortex vortexracing.com Ohlins USA ohlinsusa.com If you ever toss a few bucks their way, make a point of saying that you are doing so BECAUSE of their support of Bison Racing, Walt Sipp and Buell. Money talks, B**L S**T walks. Unfortunately, Ref (Bison Racing) - doesn't have a "product" or "service" that I've been able to find - he is just an enthusiast that wants to see the Buell marque on a racing podium. Walt is a dedicated racer who forms the other half of the "team." Looks to me like there's nothing in it for Ref except the reward of being part of the sport and it's not like Walt is able to retire young and wealthy as a road racer. This is NOT a sport for the faint of heart nor is it a sport for those wishing to live comfortably. ...just my interpretation. |

Steve: Talk to me . . . . sponsors sponsor for exposure. I used to have a friend who anted up big bucks (as in 7 figures) to the Penzoil Indy car. Each week, on Monday morning, he had a report on his desk telling now many minutes the car was "featured" in the TV shot and how much secondary (i.e. it was in the picture) exposure. That's ALL that drove his business; he could have cared less about racing. I'm thinking out loud here, but if an infinitesimally small % of badweb folks, say a mere 100, ALL wrote a letter (trust me the $0.39 version gets REALLY noticed) to each of these sponsors, it would frickin' bowl them over. It would be something they'd NEVER SEEN before and they'd associate it (the name Pavlov ring a bell?) with their support of Buell Racing. Anybody game for consolidating the mailing addresses for those sponsors? I'd darn sure be willing to write 6 or 8 letters. We, as Buell enthusiasts, have a HUGE opportunity in my opinion. Court By the way . . . if those folks each got 100 letters, I'd be willing to be that badweb would garner a few sponsors as a peripheral benefit. . . . it's just the human condition. |

My next boots will be Sidi. After I have them in hand, I will take a picture of them, beside a "Go Bison Racing" sign of some sort, and send them my letter. Go Walt! |

Court - I'm game. What Bill just posted above is an awesome thing to do!! Let's do a little legwork and get some support for Bison, Walt Sipp and their continued racing effort. As a Buell racer, I don't make this offer lightly - it takes time away from me pimping my own racing - but I'm not a guy who'd be likely to see an AMA starting grid from ON the track. I'm just a club racer. And it'd be LETTERS - letters written, stamps, paper - that sorta stuff. I'm sure one or two folks here remember those skills. Included in the letter would be expression of thanks for support of Bison/Walt Sipp and a little background on the individual writing the letter as a motorcycle consumer. Even better if that were attached to some sort of purchase. I like it. I'd love to see Walt and Bison carry it through the season. Maybe we can get Walt to give us his specific contacts at the respective sponsors since letters out to their US Headquarters are really likely to just get "filed" somewhere... never to be seen again. Congrats, Walt!!! Very cool to get that thing going again on the track, back to the pits, fix it, and back on it to finish the race. Way to go Mike and all the rest of the pit crew that fixed him up and got him back on his way. It's not every day you get to beat Duhamel and Zemke at Daytona! Al |

Congratulations, Walt! I finally got my XBRR on Wednesday (after the dealer did the valve rotator mods and I installed an STM and was on the track at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch (Pahrump, NV) while you were racing. I was thinking about you all day yesterday (when I wasn't concentrating on GP shifting for the first time!) You deserve the thanks and appreciation of all of us Buellers for a job well done...Please keep us posted on your schedule for the rest of the year... |

Excellent work . . my letters, with stamps, will go to these sponsors today. We have a unique opportunity to leverage our collective support and make an impact. Really neat stuff. I understand that Walt is a bit sore . . eager to let him know how proud we are of the way he represented Buell and Buell owners. Court UPDATE: Had a wonderful conversation with a sore, but happy, Walt this morning. It sounds like the Buell performed well and I told him I was really impressed, as Coolice pointed out, that he jumped back on the repaired bike and his lap times were as good as the pre-get-off times. There is so much to be proud of and a huge amount of credit goes to the pit crew. This was a wonderful effort and I hastened to let Walt know how many folks around the world were turned in cheering him on. If he gets a chance, I've asked him to review and edit as needed, the contact info for his sponsors. I'm going to let the Sidi people know that their Buell sponsorship has moved me to replace my aging Gaerne boots with Sidi. Congratulations to Walt and the entire Bison Racing crew. And, by the way, his 6 year old daughter is absolutely charming on the phone! (Message edited by court on March 12, 2007) |

First of all, I'd like to thank all who helped in that garage this past week: Mike, Nancy, Tim, John, AJ, Terry, Glen and Dean. Without their quick work in the pits, on pit stops and repairing crash damage...well, what can I say? I couldn't have done it without them. My bike was built and prepared absolutely flawless!!!!!! I am very happy that I was on the first Buell to finish the Daytona 200. I knew the bike could do it. However, I'm a racer so I can't help but be disappointed with our finishing position. A top 20 was my goal and looking at the finishing results, that would have been easily achievable. A few guys that I was faster in qualifying than finished in the top 20. I'm just so bummed that I got taken out, by another Buell no less!!! My pace at the beginning was not very quick, but I had never ran a race of that distance so I was trying to find a groove. I am proud of the fact that I ran my second fastest lap of the race on the last lap. Apparently, there were only six riders on the last lap quicker than I was. That just goes to show what could have been. As Court mentioned, I am quite sore. I took some good bruising to both knees and my right hip. I also have some bruised ribs and I can't seem to lift my right arm over my head without a good bit of pain. I can't say enough how much I appreciate all those involved and those who were wishing us well. Later today I will post my sponsors' contact info. Thank you so much for the great gesture of supporting those who supported me. You guys are awesome! |
