I did the search, and saw whats available. Whats the final verdict for 90% road (mostly freeway) 10% sand and gravel with about 30% overall in the rain? How are the syncs holding up on the 07s? What is everyone else truly happy with?

The Syncs are my choice. They are the best I've ever had in the rain. I have run them over 100 mph on the interstate in hard rain, they stayed hooked as well as the Goodyear Gatorbacks that came on my '94 Vette. No hyro-plane, no slip out, no spinning on acceleration, just go! I get over 6000 miles on a rear and 18000 on front. I have a gravel drive that is 400 feet long, it will hook up and wheelie no problem. I have had small hole flats and plugged them no problem. They came stock on my City-X and I've been using them on my Uly........couldn't be happier with price, availability, and ability. DisclaimerI do NOT recommend that anyone, anywhere, ever ride like I have in the past, and I have promised that I would never do again under any circumstances. MBIV noted and excepted. Amendment to disclaimer: It wasn't me. I didn't do it. |

The Syncs are awesome. They work very well in rain and offer very good feedback. If you had the Dunlops you will have to get used to the front tire being rounder, but once you trust it you will never want to go back. |

I like the syncs except for how fast I chew through the rear. Some of the windiest roads on the planet around here and they must have a pretty soft compound near the edge. The Sync 'middles' would last me 6,000 - I guess - never found out - I destroy the edges in under 3,000 miles. (some of them closer to 2,000) Lovely feeling tyre however. No puncture on the dirt so far. Like all the heavily cut road tyres masquerading as dual sport - they aren't 'bad' on the dirt - but when compared to even the 'soft' knobbies like Trail wings etc - they aren't very good either. I've run 3 syncs and 2 Dunlops and one set of Stradas. That said the Syncs are my fave tyre for the bike. dd (Message edited by danger_dave on February 12, 2007) |

This has about 1200 on it Of course wearing out the edges out first gives full licence to chuck wheelies...doesn't it???? |

i think i just ordered one of the last Dunlop 616's around. my rear is almost fried at 3100 miles, but the front is still fine. so i'm going to hopefully put another 3k miles on her so i can order some Syncs this summer! |

I couldn't tell you which tire is best. I can't get more than 3,000 out of a rear. I have a set of the Azaro Storms to try next. We'll see. |

I'm running the Diablo Stradas and really like them. I'm looking forward to finding out how they do in full on euro touring mode this summer. |

My need for an off-road tire is next to nothing. I want to try some Pilot Roads, Avon 45/46's, or some other sport touring tire. Probably similar to the Stradas. |

I've had good luck with the Stradas. You can ask Fatty or Etennuly, I am a fairly aggressive rider, and I've never had them misbehave. |

Aww heck.....The Stradas must be why Chad rides like a little girl! If I would have had a Sync on the front to match my rear tire, rather than that D616, I would have ridden off with that old guy on the Z'uki. And like him, I would have been constantly riding back to check on Chad and company instead of riding with them. That's a crock of crap.....I'm sorry Chad.....I couldn't keep up with that Z'uki, and Chad doesn't ride like a little girl......I've just have had a superb day and I couldn't help myself. Riding with Chad, Ft_b, and company is the only time I have dragged a peg on my Uly.......we went so fast for so long it was bound to happen. |

It wasn't a peg, Etennuly. It was a side bag! |

I've pulled my new 616 front off and replaced with a Sync. Only road home so can't say too much but the front end wonder has gone, and that was the result I was looking for. |

It wasn't a peg, Etennuly. It was a side bag! I believe I dragged a hip and a boot too! I was running from the blue lights that were behind me!!! Then I figured out the blue lights were from you.

Has anybody ridden with both the Syncs and the Avon Storm STs? What were they like and what would you recommend for 95% road riding with 20% rain? |

So is 6000mi, say 4000mi of it is slab, reasonable for a set of Syncs? I've got a trip planned to Utah in the spring, thinking about what tires I need for the trip. Swapping tires mid trip is possible, but tends to be expensive and a PITA. |

6000 miles is a long way for Syncs. |

Is it dangerous to run a 160/60 on the rear? I think it will fit. What besides a flatter profile due to the rim width should I expect. I want to try avon distanzias, and that is the widest profile they offer. Could someone with more influence than I have ask them to make a 180/55, or at least a 170/70 rear. It is just one rear mold, they already make a front. Will I die if I put a set on? |

6000 miles is a long way for Syncs. So any suggestions? The Anakee's on my GS would hold up for that. I'm looking for something similar. Diablo Stradas or Pilot Roads are Ok, tho I'd like something w/ more dirt flavor. |

Would like something with more dirt flavor also. 160/60's don't look so bad. |

I've got about 5 grand on my rear Pilot Road and it's just about toast. I'll probably try the Syncs next... (Message edited by Scary_Mc on February 19, 2007) |

So any suggestions? I'd be tempted to set out on worn tires and have an appointment to get new rubber somewhere close to Utah. That way you can enjoy the scenery on fresh rubber. I realized though that you were trying to avoid tire changes on the trip. |

I get the most mileage out of the Pilot Roads, I have run two sets of them and one set of the Syncs..The syncs are a great handling tire. The Pilot Roads seem to be constructed heavier, just a stouter carcass. On a long trip fully loaded, three bags and stuff piled on the seat the Pilot Roads are my choice. I have the Avon Azarios on now, they are similar to the Michelin's. My conclusion is there is no tire that is a clear winner overall for dirt, road, highway and overall mileage. One thing for sure they are all better than the Dunlop 616's. The ULY is no mudder, dry and rocky OK, no mud,.so really the tires are a toss-up. My favorite everyday tire are the Syncs, with a sacrifice of about 1000 miles of wear over the Pilot Roads. My opinion whatever it is worth.. |

I think I got close to 10k out of my front sync and about 7-8k out of the rear. They lasted way better than the stock dunlops and improve the bike's handling. |
