+1 Jmhinkle, I asked my dealer about it (again) today, was told "nothing could be found from HD" and therefore it would be a customer-funded mod... I wrote down how to get to this thread and asked them to check it out. Somehow I'm not too optimistic. Hello my dealer! I like you people personally but when it comes to Buells I sense very much lack of enthusiasm. You'll know me if you do decide to check this thread, I'm the guy with the million-dollar Buell according to Andy... |

http://www.aluminum.nu/files/07modelinfo.pdf p82 shows the new box and states "Revised calibration for new airbox" My dealer had it on the Digital Technician already. It probably helped that the first person they did it for was the Rider's Edge Instructor, who owns 2 Uly's, that works for them. He is the one who in turn did mine on a Sunday morning during the Brag event. (Message edited by jmhinkle on October 08, 2006) |

A new ('07) will come the way it should be. The only bikes that will need a re-flash will be 2006 models that have a new (07) airbox cover installed. |

I added a 07 airbox & K&N to the stock 06 ECM and muffler and could not believe the difference. THIS is the motor I always expected it to be but wasn't quite. No BS, it pulls noticably harder top and bottom and just throttles much better. It lofts the front end much quicker. It is at least as big a difference as when I put the race ECM and Drummer on. (I switch back and forth). It doesn't make sense that so small a change could net such big results but trust me...it is more than worth the $37 bucks. I think it's better than the open airbox. I tried the open air box but thought it sacrificed a bit of low end for more top end. The 07 does both. I don't even want the reflash. I think the cooler air or more air has caused the ECM to run richer. Maybe it fails emissions with the 07 thus the reflash which may lean it back out. Whatever the case, it's making a big enough change to require reflashing the ECM for 07. Don't know what's going on but do know I like it. |

Buell has updated the software for the ECM's in '07 due to the change of the airbox. It is free from the dealer if you have the '07 box. They plug it in and reflash it to the new version. I don't get it, you buy an 07 Buell that comes with an 07 airbox and you need a free reflash? Or is it if you have an 06 Buell and you buy an 07 airbox you get a free reflash? Sorry, confused...this just doesn't sound like Buell to reflash an ecm once it has left the factory, very uncharacteristic. Can someone clarify the situation? It's not urgent, I'm just curious. |

Opto, If you buy an 07 then go ride and forget you ever saw this thread. If you put a 07 airbox on your 06, the thought is you "should" get the 07 flash for the ECM. The real question is what is revised about the 07 flash? |

I checked into this re-flash. There are indeed two different ECM calibrations. To be able to reflash your bike with a 07 mapping, the dealership will have to hook your bike up to Digital Technician and instead of using 6 (indicating a 2006 model) as the tenth digit in your VIN, enter 7 (indicating the bike as a 2007 model now). They will then goto the ECM flash menu and it will show the 2007 OEM calibration as the only one available for the bike. They can download it at that time. There is no charge to the dealer for this ECM flash unlike the performance flashes for H-D’s that are about $140. Make sure they only charge you for labor. You should receive a printed sheet that details the ECM calibrations put into your bike. Here are the numbers so that you can verify you got the right one: 06 Flash: MX1US23i/DT 07 Flash: MX1US24i/DT I tried to contact tech services to see if there would be any issues with doing this, but I can’t get them on the phone. I waited in queue for an hour and a half. My lunch hour was running well over by that time. More than likely it will work just fine, but change it at your own risk. This calibration is designed for a stock 07 bike. So if you have a different air filter/exhaust combo and are experiencing pinging, it may not fix it. For you that have had the flash a while. What are the results you are seeing with the new airbox cover? Is anybody continuing to use the stock air filter when they do the airbox cover change? |

I have the modified '06 air box with the stock air filter. I have not had the '07 reflash. I did the alteration at 8,000 miles. The bike runs better than ever, and I just did the 10,000 mile service. The original plugs showed a nearly perfect fuel air mix. It will only ping if I get bad gas(I always buy premium). I did not do the TPS reset yet as I am closely monitoring how far it will run until it shows signs of needing it. |

Josh, Are you saying the ECM Flash to '07 specs is not an "on demand" freebe? |

It is a freebie, but Buell doesn't market it as a freebie. The idea is if you have a bad ecm in an 07, when Buell ships you an ECM, it is blank. We flash them in the shop before running the bike with the OEM calibration. So, the flash doesn't cost the shop anything, but it also isn't considered an upgrade for an 06 from Buell. You have to put in a false VIN pretending your bike is an 07. Unless you let the shop know that, they will probably say no download is available. You just have to pay the labor time to the shop for doing it. It only takes about 15 minutes. It seems several people have tried it with good results now. I've got five more airboxes on the way right now, so hopefully I'll have one to put on my bike if you all don't buy them first (that is what happened to the first ones)! |

Josh - when did Buell start sending out blank ECMs that need a dealership to flash start? Zeroing the TPS is a big enough chore for many dealerships...now you're saying Buell sends 'blank' ECMs??? My Triumph Tiger could have various tunes loaded based on pipe, filter combos but it was documented in the service manual. What you describe sounds like a 'do it at your own risk' mod rather than a certified maintenance task. (I am not suggesting its a bad thing) DAve (Message edited by dave on October 17, 2006) |

I think I want this!!! I wish my local dealers were easier to deal with. I have two dealers withing 30 minutes of my house that I just can't count on to get me anything in any reasonable amount of time, let alone place a part order over the phone with a credit card. My dealer is over an hour away and I just don't have time to get out there. I don't think they'd do a phone order and certainly they'd want to charge me to install. Any ideas on where I can phone/internet order the part (p0215.3aa)? Do I also need a new filter? Thanks. |

Daves does a better job at getting anything so far, and he is halfway across the country from me. My local stealer is 3 miles away, but I wouldn't trust them to put gas in my bike. Call DaveS. |

This is a fact. They have been doing it for awhile now. H-D bikes wont even run until you "marry" the ecm to the tsm/tssm. They will just start and immediately shut off. Alershka, I have 5 on order due in any time now. 4 are pre sold, so you can have the last one if you want it. PM me if you are interested. |

Josh ya said HD bikes.... Not trying to be difficult... trying to understand the change in the way Buell ECMS are now distributed. The ECMs have always required a TPS rest.... You are telling us that all ECMs are void (cannot run vehicle) and have to be flashed (EPROM) with the digital technician? Does this apply to all ECMs including the race ECM? DAve |

The race ecm comes flashed. Stock ECMs do not. As of right now, Buell doesn't have any performance calibrations available, only stock calibrations. Teeps, The ECM needs to be plugged into the bike to be flashed as digital technician communicates through the data connector on the bike. I think a reasonable amount of time is .5 hrs. Basically, that would allow 15 mins for flashing and 15 for a test ride/wipe down any fingerprints from handling your bike. |

Hi all, excuse me for poaching over here in the Uly section. Can anyone tell me if the airbox lid in question is the same on my '06 Long as on an '06 Uly? |

This sounds like a cool upgrade, but I'm afraid my dealer wouldn't have a clue about how to do this flash (or just refuse to do it) or might throw it in my face if a warranty issue ever arose. Has anybody around Atlanta had a dealer reflash their 06 ECM with 07 code yet? |

I asked my dealer about the '07 reflash with the '07 filter cover a few weeks ago. Even wrote down the links to this thread for their opportunity to expand their horizons... Said they'd get back with me but... I've had it with their service dept. There's no way they're doing my 10k since there isn't enough shiny stuff on my Buell to wake up the wrench so he can do a good job. Got my fork compressor from American Sport Bike yesterday and all I need now is the electronics gear, then the heck with the dealer. Only time they'll see me for service is for warranty work, like the clutch cable wire form that just broke for the second time. $5 part at $80/hour, maybe they'll just give me a few to keep me away. Velofellow, welcome newbie! Pretty big think tank here, enjoy! |

Dgunther, I am thinking about doing the same thing though I am wary. Decided to buy the 07 seat locally from Earls. That was two weeks ago. Told yesterday it will be in Monday. Not great considering others told me a maximum of 5 days. I was thinking about printing off Josh's direct comments and taking it down to the service department to see if they can or will do it before I buy the airbox cover. |

I have an '06 Uly /stock EMC /stock pipe. No pings ever, just a slight 'lean surge' at cruising, and 'feels' borderline lean to me. I put the '07 airbox cover on this weekend, after getting it from DaveS. Took it out for an AFV run, then wicked it up on some esses. Very nice indeed. Nothing earthshaking, but noticeable and improved. It seems to have lost that lean surge at cruise as well. Best $35 mod I've seen. The left rear molded in latch cracked on install though, kinda disappointing. It ain't like its falling off or anything though. |
