Just read an article in Motorcyclist about extracting significant power gains from a Yamaha R-6 with just a Power Commander and no pipe or anything else. I really like how quiet the stock exhaust is on the Uly but would love to be rid of the 3000 rpm stumble and of course more torque and horsepower are always welcome. Is it possible to remap the stock ECM or do something with the race ECM to get some more poke out of the stock set up? |

Your stumble is not caused by your current ECM. Changing it to get rid of a problem only makes it more difficult to correct said problem. My Uly is dead smooth at 3000 in any gear it is stock. Properly set up they are totally awsum. You will only complicate things by putting a different computer on the bike. You need to get to a dealer who knows how to set one of these Buells up. Don't give any more money to that other dealership that wants to sell you another ECM. I bought a drummer early on and sold it only 8 days after having it because it, in my opinion was far to noisy for me and anybody who lives around me. I like the stock sound also and wouldn't consider an aftermarket muffler unless it was fairly quiet. |

How about some more specifics Thunder. What exactly did you dealer do differently than the average dealer? Did you do a dyno run and have them set it up? Or is the answer in the airbox with a K & N filter and the remap? |

I have no 3000 stumble and my bike is stock except for the opened up airbox and 07' reflash. It was running good before that also. |

Yes, please expound on the proper set up. My timing was off initially and I had that adjusted at the 1000 mi service, but it still surges at 3 grand. My dealer has a bunch of Buell riders working there so someone should know what to do with it... |

It is my opinion that the 3K surge is a extreme timing parameter at 9-12TPS at 3K. The only way to correct it is to re-map the timing. Reducing the initial advance does help reduce the surging. An artificially high AFV locked in by removing the VSS white wire) also reduces the surge but does not eliminate it. The parameter that I described above prescribes timing as much as 55-62 BTDC!!! Ouch!!! |
