if you prefer the sound of the stock muffler why not just leave it all hooked up the way it is?

Because you get more "rap" with the valve wired open.

One thing I noticed (or imagined) with the interactive valve opened, wide, all the time is less low speed surging (25/35 mph.)

For Daves
will it run ok with K&N race ecm and stock muffler as standard?

I do not see any reason to do the race ecm with the stock muffler.
The race ecm will not actuate the muffler valve, I think this would hurt your power in some of the rpm ranges. It will also cause the check engine light to stay on.
Wiring the valve open would do the same thing, I would think.

I guess the question is what are you wanting to achieve?
Sound?
Performance?

Then I can better answer your questions.

I am running that set up to get rid of a throttle that acted like an "On-Off" switch at low throttle settings.

I would have preferred to have gotten a re-mapped Stock ECM, but my dealer does not do those, yet. I am certain that an ECM that supports the Servo in the muffler would improve performance.

The Race Filter probably does nothing for me, but I do not know this for certain.

In any event, until my dealer supports a re-mapped stock ECM, I am happy with my Race ECM set up. The Race ECM changed a very notchy throttle into a very smooth throttle. I do not get a Check Engine light with my set up.

Have Fun!

Once I thought about it, you are right.
You wouldn't get an engine light with a race ecm.
Sorry, don't know what I was thinking?

anybody tried the *White wire mod*on the xb12-cutting/removing the speed sonsor wire to the ecm ?

I thought the "white wire" was only for bikes sent to Europe?

Davo did some experimenting with it. Check out the pinging thread from a week or 2 ago.

Buelllightening,
I have done quite a bit of testing with the white wire removed. Some of which is reported here:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/227754.html?1158070221
make sure you read through the posts. Early speculation was proved to be incorrect. There were some significant conclusions. Beware it works so good that mpg will drop off.

Daves,
There is another white wire. The one Buelllightening is referring to is the VSS not the exhaust actuator.

Davo,
I read the other thread.
Did you ever figure it out?
Interesting stuff

I think I have a pretty good handle on it. My problem is that I am am having difficulty monitoring which loop is being used during operation. The fixed AFV value stays on the VDSTS read out for about a minute or until the engine is at operating temperature. I am in the process of gathering as much numerical data as possible to try determine the mathematical formula used to determine the parameters. There are a lot of factors that need to be isolated prior to my breaking the code. For example: spark timing goes to zero at 307 F at idle. I would like to hang out at TechnoResearch for a day or two!

Daves,
I do not have a dyno. If you reset the AFV then turn off the ignition, disconnect the VSS and do a couple of test runs on a dyno. Then turn off the ignition and then disconnect the O2 wire and do a test run. I think the results will be significant. Now reconnect both wires run 3-4 minutes at 55 mph w/o any changes to the TPS and AFV should rise above 100. Then repeat the two runs above. Results of the four runs should demonstrate that AFV can be manipulated and then fixed.

Important note: If you disconnect the O2 without turning off the ignition switch the O2 will make the AFV drop to the around 82 and create a lean condition!

So is there a verdict for running the air filter and Race ECM with the stock exhaust? Is it okay (actually curious about a 9 and not a 12 with the valve) to do, or with it hurt something?
