I decided I wanted to ceramic coat the header (for cosmetic reasons) and to do so I needed to remove it. Well, turn out you have to drop the entire engine (rotate down) to get to the rear mount and to remove it. Things were fine until I got to the front isolator. It seems who ever put my bike together decided to red threadlock the main bolt into the isolator, not the insert into the bike. Sooooo, when I started to back the bolt out everything turned. Long story short it was a ROYAL PITA to get it out and I will be replacing a few part to get back perfect. Anyone else ever have this issue? |

Whoa! That makes me not look forward to ever removing the front isolator. Is it a steel threaded insert into the aluminum? If so, what do you do if the threads in the aluminum get damaged? Could be a major issue in ever getting the bike back together. |

I think they use the insert into the aluminum to avoid the obvious issues that would happen if you did cross thread. Plus the thread are large and they is a pretty good amount of them (deep.) That's not a big issue and shouldn't be even concerning, the design is very solid and if it would have been installed properly I should not have had an issue removing it. I brought it up here to see if others have ever had the problem or have a way to remove the isolator without going through what I went through. When I ordered the parts from Dave S this morning he even said he had never heard of the issue before. |
