I've got just over 16,000 miles on it and it doesn't knock or detonate, the fan hasn't died, my license light hasn't broken, it hasn't fallen off the sidestand, the stand didn't break (it has had the recall done), it doesn't leak oil, my frame doesn't get unbearably hot, my ECM and wiring aren't being rubbed by my Low seat, my saddlebags don't leak even in hellacious downpours and the latches haven't broken. I consistently get 49-50 MPG, the bike always starts right up and is a joy to ride. Am I doing something wrong, or are other people encountering the same thing? |

Better yet. If you have VDSTS could you please record some engine parameters: front spark timing, ET, AFV and RPM. Make a test run and pm the log to me. I would like to see the timing parameters of a pingless Uly. |

Davo, I'm afraid I can't help you. While I plan to buy the software some time in the future, I haven't got it yet. Since the bike is running well, I'm not going to mess with it; and other things have taken priority (like my daughter's Birthday present!) |

I understand completely and a "Happy Birthday" to your daughter!!!!!! If anyone else has a pingless Uly and they have a VDSTS, I would really like to review the log data. I am wondering if there might be some ECMs that were flashed differently. Thanks! |

Crusty, Great Post. My Uly is similarly "afflicted". Runs great, just keeps going and delivers more smiles per mile than any motorcycle I have ever owned. I have 2 problems with it: 1. Not enough time to ride it. 2. Winter is coming. These internet boards are great but they do tend to magnify the problems that exist. Ride on. |

Crusty - What is you production date? Mine must have been made on the same day. Almost 14,000 miles and the bike runs great. |

Wow, that's great that you're having such good luck with your bike. Mine has had no problems with the saddlebags, but the rest of the song is the same with a couple of new verses. The good thing is, I just got a J.D. Power Survey in the mail, and I'm taking bids from the highest bidder.... Erik Buell can bribe me to lie about the bike, or J.D. Powers can pay me to tell the truth....I take Paypal too. |

No ping? I sure would like to swap bikes with an alleged pingless Uly for one hot summer day. I bet it would ping, especially on the mountain passes. What gas do you use? Does it have ethanol? Is it oxygenated? How did you manage to obtain one of those mythical pingless Uly's? I want one. |

My bike isn't mythical. I've ridden it in a range of temperatures from well below freezing (it was in the teens when I left for Daytona) to over 100 with 85% humidity. When I bought it, I was told that the "Buell Mechanic" at the dealership had re-set the timing, as many bikes were coming from the factory mis-timed. As far as gas, I prefer Sunoco Ultra, but I will buy what ever is available when I'm traveling. I always use the highest octane available. |

No pings here. Though I often ask about fixes to a lean condition, and low speed surging, these are not urgent (in fact, barely perceptible; I am just anal) and truth be told they are no more true of my Uly than of any other 2006 bike from what I see. |

Like Crusty, the service manager at my dealer is the Buell specialist and he reset my timing during the 1000 mile service, before that it would ping. I told him and he fixed it. So far 102°F in the North Carolina sun and 95% Humidity without pinging. The altitude may be an issue. Though I have been in the mountain at over 5000ft, it is no match to the western states where the plateaus are that high. As far as fuel, I always run high-test gas, no alcohol, 92-94 octane. Instead of having my bike to prove your point, I wish I could take your bike to my mechanic and prove mine. |

M2nc, Too bad you are on the other side of the country. I would definitely take my Uly to your mechanic. I would love to be proven wrong about the ping. |
