How old is your son and how long has he been riding? Just make sure he is ready for the extra power that the Lightning has. I have an 03 9S also (see my profile pic) and love it. No problems so far. Knock on coffee table. |

Hey thanks for responding. My son has 17000 miles so far,he's only 18 but right now he's in basic training for the army national guard. He is a pretty good rider,he'll ride his bike any time of the year, like snow and cold,he's always giving me crap for not riding some of those days, but I guess it's my age being a weanie. He's been riding since he was 11. |

Pretty natural progression from a Blast to a Lightning. The wheelie factor is the toughest thing to adapt to. Blasts don't wheelie as easy as the 9s. And the Brakes. They take some getting used to as the XB stops on a dime, whereas the Blast stops on a quarter and a nickel. If he practices slow speed maneuvers for a while to get the feel of it, he should do just fine. |

Kids like to "age" their parents, don't they? Reminds us of ourselves when we were young and cocky... I upgraded from an '00 Blast to an '03 XB9S when it came out. Your son should have NO problems. The XB is twice the price but more than 3x the bike. |

Also went from a blast to a lightning. I deffinitly recommend it. Give the blast to sis and start another Bueller-for-life. BTW, can you be my dad? |

If he takes his time, and is cautious, then it is a great transition. I went from a Blast to a Honda Shadow 750, and then right back to a xb9sx. My biggest complaints about other bikes is the brakes. Buell has got the market on responsive and reliable braking. A word to the wise, the Xb9 is like a billy goat on steroids, and it does get a little jumpy for the beginner rider.... JMHO Mark Z. |
